I figure thats the best title for my post here... I've already taken out some of the star notes. I'll start a "What's it Worth" post for those later tonight or tomorrow. So experts, which bills should I keep and which ones should I spend? That's all I have... More to come
Bluto, I would say to keep all of them if you can afford to. Most of them aren't worth much of a premium, but I like the old style notes and they are being pulled from circulation and destroyed. That could mean that in 100 years they will be a premium for them but not now. Most people will tell you to spend mostly all of them. The consec's and stars are the exception. Just curious, how did they come to you? Thanks, John
thats alot of high value notes. Sorry to say, i agree they are not worth much of a premium. I didnt go through and loook up every note, so itsw possible there might be a note that is worth a bit over face... I would keep them if i could afford it... otherwise, keep all stars if i could, and any other note that shows it might be worth saving... its tough to save them all!~!!!
collect what you like, save what you can, spend what you want...er, dont want? just take a minute to think they will be pulled from circulation and destroyed, so this may be your only chance at them.
Not an expert but the only ones I would keep are the *'s. I'd put the rest into an investment account or high dividend mutual funds.
I agree and would do the same. 5760K printed which is towards the higher end for that series but still not a big number.
Check the notes against www.uspapermoney.info to see which ones are lower printings and have a contest with the rest. LOL
Thanks for the advice guys. I've been going through all of the bills trying to decide what to keep and what to spend. Here's more of an idea on what I'm dealing with...
you must of been finding and saving them for along time, unless you deal with money. Try sellin some.
are you needing to spend some of this? Or are you interested in investing it in something that will show a return quicker than 100 years??? I'd keep the crisper uncirculated bills, stars, and any runs...but...I'd venture you could invest the rest in a really nice collector piece. You could show the bills to your local guy and see if he will give you a bit of a discount for the "quality" of bills you are purchasing with. Couldn't hurt.
I'm actually going through all of these in order to get myself out of debt and finish up college. I'll be keeping a few of the notes pictured, and a few others which I haven't had the time to scan. I have a lot more higher notes... I already found out I'm going to have some trouble selling off sequential 100s. As for star notes, I've pulled those. Them being destroyed is why I'm hoping I can find a collector locally who would be interested in them. I'd much rather them go to someone who would appreciate them instead of depositing them into a bank account and having them destroyed This might take me a few days! Thanks for the link. I'm looking at finding a local collector or coin show that I might be able to sell a few if not everything. I've gone to a few dealers, but decided on finding a collector and skip the middle man. Get myself a few more bucks and save the collector from dealer costs.
Ok guys... Instead of starting a new topic I'll just keep on going with thiis one. What about these: [/QUOTE]
thats alot of notes to try to digest lol i would suggest, since you seem to have a ton of notes, to pick up a currency book, like either the 'Standard Catalog of United States paper Money, by Friedberg', or 'The Comprehensive Guide to United States Paper money, dont know the author'. Another good book with some good prices is the 'Standard Guide to Small-Size U.S. Paper Money: 1928 to Date, John Schwartz and Scott Lindquist'. Any of these books will give decent prices, but not as accurate as an auction house. Also, the comprehensive book i think gives alot more information and more varieties..... good luck!
Spend um!! For sure! I had a couple of nice early issue *Stars* 1963-A $100,s And barely got over face they were CH/CU, The market is really in the tank!!
Picked em up. Now the book says if these are "GEM CU" that 2 certain bills worth is $325 for the 1950D $100 from Richmond and $700 for the 1950 $100 from Chicago, everywhere else says good luck getting anything over $100 I'm lost...
book prices and street prices do differ on most occaisions - true! But, you have to look at it this way..... if your looking at the book, and it lists the price in GEMCU as $300+ then you know the note is NOT common, and will command a nice premium when sold. If the note is listed in the book for $5, then it will tell a different story. Right now with the nation strnagled in a nice recession, with the possibility of it ending or ended... prices will start to strengthen. Use the books as a guide so when you do sell, you have a good idea what to expect.
