Managed to get one of the Chronicles thingy, maybe. Apparently the Mint is unaware these special items will generate a lot of traffic!!!! Will never do this again: (actual times and this was not done on dialup) 5 minutes from clicking link to the site, 4 minutes to get signed in, 7 minutes to move to the cart, 4 minutes to the order review, 11 minutes to the checkout payment (had to hit 'Back' and retry several times because of blank screen with 'Done' in the status bar), 6 minutes to 'place' the order, 4 minutes until the order acknowledged screen. Only then am I told the order has not really been accepted, that will be decided later.
They are aware as are most attentive collectors and those not living under rocks. They might be sold out already but you still have to try to get your order in asap on release days... Sorry you had a rough time ordering. Let's add up the cumulative CT haul of LN6 sets!
Hey, the anxiety of not knowing whether you'll get it or not is half the fun! The mint always has a disclaimer about being able to reject your order, but they only do it for a good reason like a bad credit card, over-limit orders or sellouts.
Took me an hour and 54 minuets. Half the time was spent trying to get through on the phone. Then tried the mint's site and after wairing twenty minuets or more was able to slowly complete my order. Done at 1:54 EDT. 30 seconds later the order # and backordered status showed up in my mail. Sounds like par for the course. So we get a proof Lincoln silver dollar, huh? Will it be satin finished too. Boy would that be unique! Now for the long wait. Thanks for all the above posts. I thought I was one of only a few who took this route. PERSERVERANCE pays off. Can you beleive the sets are trying to be sold on ebay for $300 to $650+ !!
for your consideration Anyone who does not manage to et the Lincoln Coin & Chronicle set (LN6) will have the chance on the secondary market in buying empty cases when others start to sell them after having coins sent in for grading/slabbing. An LN6 set will be possible to assemble from the Proof Lincoln Coin and 4 pc. Lincoln Proof set (currently still $7.95 from the Mint) The cases may show up for $10, $20 - $50 on eBay later on... if the LN6 sets remain hot, this may not be much to pay if you can assemble such a set yourself from the parts. An important consideration: If you get any LN6 sets that contain cents with spots, I suggest you do not complain to the Mint and DO NOT send the set back to the Mint. Instead buy the 4 piece Lincoln Proof set with clean coins to replace those in your LN6 set. If you return your LN6 set to the Mint due to spots or other minor problems this would mean you loose the silver proof coin and the case itself, plus shipping costs.
I got 1 set but it took me 3.5 hours. I was at work so I guess my time frame don't count, I mean everyone around me knew what I was doing but I just couldn't stop working and stay online, especially since everytime I tried the site would go into temp disabled mode. Anyways, I'm glad I stayed on top of it. Oh no, there's that baby again playing the air guitar.
I was online from 1200 EST to 1345 EST and never got to place an order from home (DSL connection), barely able to get on the website. Went back to work disappointed and the guys at work had me try there. Even with all the govt firewalls on our computers I managed to order the set in less than 5 minutes at 1425 EST. I guess it all depends on luck of the timing.
AAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHH. When I first saw this post I started to laugh. I've never had to spend more than a few minutes to place an order with the Mint. In fact early this year I ordered those proof sets and it took only minutes. So seeing this post I remembered to go there and order the new Uncirc sets. Went there and spent almost an hour and never did get my order through. They rejected my email address, my name, my user name, my password and on and on and on. So I went out and went back in and made all new info as if a new member. Again, I was informed of numerous errors such as no spaces in user name, no spaces in credit card number, to few items for password then password could not end in a number. Then they started with need shipping address all over again and finally was accepted then thrown out of the web site. Ended up calling the 800-872-6468 number and had to start with the press 1, press 2, press etc., etc., etc. Eventually I did place my order. This may be the end of my ordering from them.
I guess one hour with a dial-up connection wasn't so bad afterall. I really felt stupid spending that much time trying to buy coins I already have...just because the Mint put them in a new package...that's just WRONG on so many levels. :rolling: (but I did it, anyway).
we knew we are stupid. but can't change it?. i wasted two hours. from 11:30 to 1:30 pm and still can't get through. i try later around 2:00 to 2:30 pm. this time is good. then the whole evening were so light. what can we said?. maybe next time i will not be stupid.
The Mint actually has posted an apology on its site regarding the debacle now known as the LN6 Horror. Usually it's pretty hairy ordering an item that is not in such demand. This must have been something special. Having been through this with some other coins I commiserate with all those that had to go through this torture.
I don't think you will regret it as it looks like these sets are gonna be going for top dollar. To me that makes it all worth it!!
