My wife gets phone calls and mail from a company called valuevesting.com. The latest thing in the mail included a coupon good for 10% off a purchase from their ebay store (go to valuevesting.com and click on ebay specials on the right side of the screen). The prices seem pretty high to me even after a 10% discount. I'm totally unimpressed. Does anyone know about this company? Any reason for me to give them a second look? Thanks for any insight!
Your getting cold calls from a firm that you haven't done business with in the past? That is not a good sign right there.
When you receive a sales call from a company that you have no relationship with you know two things: They don't mind violating federal law (the Do Not Call List), and They are selling overpriced merchandise of questionable quality (which they may, or may not, actually deliver.)
There is a background story here as to why they call my wife. Her father had done some business with them and had a really nice walking liberty half dollar collection. He passed away last year and while my wife was at his house taking care of estate stuff they called to see if he wanted to sell his half dollars. My wife explained the situation and apparently gave them our number and address. Her father always seemed pretty shrewed when it came to financial matters so I'm not sure what kind of business dealings he had with them. Based on their prices I would dismiss them immediately, but thought maybe I should ask here in case I'm missing something. Afterall, I'm still pretty new at coin collecting.
Oooch. That is rather scarry. If you think about it and if that organization sells coins, that means someone out there knows you have valuable coins. If I were you I'd send them a letter or email stating no one here deals with coins. We do not want anything to do with coins or something like that. They have your address, name and think you are a coin collector. This is a possible home invasion possibility ploy. Things like this worry me a lot since I live in really high crime area.
Just Carl, not sure I follow you. Isn't this true anytime one buys coins from a dealer, especially on-line? They will know you have coins and where you live, assuming you had the purchase shipped to your home. I believe my wife's father purchased some coins from them and I have no reason to believe they are any different than any other company. Except that I think their prices are a bit over the top. Anyway, I guess no one here knows anything about them. That is enough to tell me to pass on anything they offer.
