At my coin club meeting last night, I bought a 1984 Olympic commemorative silver dollar (the one with the coliseum). I was born and raised in Long Beach and consider LA to be home. I was at the 84 olympics, so I wanted this coin. I may get the discuss thrower later, but this is the one I wanted.

$12 bucks in an airtight. I think it was a fairly good buy.

I also bought a 1962 proof set......my birthyear. I don't have but a few proof sets, but I wanted my birthyear. It is in its original envelope. I paid $13.25 for it (Redbook lists $30, but that has to be way off). I think it was a good buy

Two sentimental, but very cool buys. I was quite pleased, and I believe I did well on the price (tell me if I'm wrong!).

Also, I met Erin (AggieCollector on this site) and his very cool little son who both came to the coin club and joined. Erin's son won TWO door prizes including the Discus Thrower Silver Dollar from the LA Olympics, plus he got a Barber quarter for showing up (that little dude cleaned up)! :thumb: It was great to meet both of them!

    Kudo's to this group

3 cheers for this group. As mentioned, I found this site a little while back and "met" bobbeth when he answered a few of my questions. Turns out we live a few minutes apart and he invited us to the coin club. Was a friendly group. My little guy picked up 7 coins in total as he won the commemorative, a small gold coin, bid on and won a franklin and 3 members gave him a free coin. Then a babrber quarter for being a YN.

He is already asking when the next meeting is and my daughter is mad she did not get to go lol.

Anyway, thanks again to all on the site!

I agree 100% the little guy just might treasure those coins, and grow up to be a bigtime collector too - all because some other collectors made him feel welcome in the hobby and made it fun.

Sounds like you really have a good coin club. To bad we don't have any around me. I always think of coin clubs as a great place to make friends and new purchases of coins.

Coin clubs are great especially for those starting to collect coins. I remember many years ago where the old timers would answer all the questions you had and help you along the way. Now than I am an old timer I am keeping the image of a knowledgeable old timer alive helping the young collectors.
