They are the modern equivalents of chopmarks. They are put on by merchants, usually in larger cities or outside the US, when they have verified the notes are genuine.
Huh... makes sense... I think this one came from a relative in Germany who dabbled in coins and thought it'd make a nice present.... ... assuming each marking adds a 3x premium to the face value ?:eat:
thanks. i figured thats what he meant - but i have never heard of or seen folks do that to paper. 3x the notes value for each chopmark?? Wow, i need to start making my own
