Man, would I love to see some good coin docs on coin dealers and the shows.. Too bad they probably don't exist
BNB, The PCGS website has tons of videos posted about coins shows and dealers. Some of the videos are just show reports, but some of them are like mini-documentaries about each dealer and how they got their start, what they like about the hobby, etc. The videos aren't easy to find on their website, but most of them are in here (and most of the recent videos seem to be in the "other" section under "miscellaneous" - and also under the "PCGS Articles" link): http://www.pcgs.com/articles/index.chtml My favorite is probably the story of Angel Dee's: http://www.pcgs.com/articles/article_view.chtml?artid=5707&universeid=313&type=1 Andy's great to work with and is definitely the go to guy for top quality Small Cents and Nickels.
I saw a really good one about the sinking of the Central America in a hurricane. It went down in 1857 carrying a large amount of California gold, much of it minted into double eagles. It created as much stir as the sinking of the Titanic in later years. So much gold was lost it had a significant impact on the economy. Much of that gold was recovered recently, and of course created quite a sensation. I was amazed at the valor of the men, who worked bilge pumps and bucket brigades for over 24 hours without rest. 100% of the women and children survived the disaster; almost none of the men did. They went down with the ship since there wasn't enough space in the lifeboats. "Women and children first" - very real then and now.
