    OK CoinTalkers,
Along the same lines as the 1814 dime I posted, it would be very interesting to hear your opinions on this 1801 dime. (It is a JR-2, R-5).

Thanks in advance for your comments,

    Eduard

I would say VF-25 - VF-30, judging from those pics. Neat coin!

The coin has a nice reverse but too much wear on the obv for better than VF30 IMO.

VF30 obverse, a little better on the reverse. It will retone in the coming years.

Nice coin, Eduard ! :thumb: You knew I was going to say that ...

I agree with the VF-30 crowd. Maybe 35. Nice coin!

I would put in the VF category...but my knowledge with this series isn't good enough to be more specific.

Another very nice coin! My grade is VF details and the pictures almost make it look like something is up with the obverse. The top of the hair looks worn, the bottom looks bold(almost like it is tooled, but do not think so), then a weak strike spot on the shoulder, with what maybe an X above the breast(could be the pictures - it stands out in the thumbnails). This coin really confused me and it almost looks like the planchet was not flat or level when it was struck. If I was to go with a grade I would say VF35 - just to hedge my bets between VF and XF. :) Just my humble opinion.

I think about vf 30. (the reverse may be a little better than that) Pretty!

Thanks all for your comments. I agree that this coin is not easy to grade: the obverse is weaker than the reverse. I have been looking up similar coins in Heritage and it appears to be particular to this variety. See this JR-2 graded VF25:

Going by this, I would also place it somewhere between VF and XF as most of you do.
Jonathan Kern (whom I bought this from) agrees and graded the coin VF30.
As for appearance and color, as usual my photos do not do the coin justice.

    Regards,

    Eduard
