I have been looking for a national bank note for my home town in Attleboro Massachusettes. It has taken a few weeks to find 1, but i finally did. And i didnt just find 1, but 4!!!

Below are the images the seller sent me. They range in price from $375 to $475. I do not know which note is which price yet, except for the $10 note. I am waiting to hear back from the seller as to which note is which price - after all, price is the most important factor right now for me lol

let me know what you think, what grade you might assign each note, and when i hear back from the seller, i will let you know what grade he assigned and how much each note is for sale. I will also let you know which note i am leaning towards and why :)

    thanks for looking :)

DJ...are they Plain Backs or Date Backs??

All great notes..I like the middle $5 the best...better margins than the last $5 but no staining or foxing like the 1st five...(well a minor fox mark in the portrait field)

I would give that guy an VF15 grade...would be the #1 choice for me just because of the margins...alot of these were hand cut as well and uneven margins exist as well as cut marigns that encroach the border of the design...like that D plate note still it is in better shape condition wise.

So here they are in order

    1. VG

    2. VF+

    3. VF++ to XF

    4. F maybe VF due to bank stamp and circulation(handling)

The $10 is a nice as well Fine to VF range...

    Keep me posted....great notes friend!!

ok - lets try a second attempt at responding to this thread - every time i write a long response - the site dies, and i lose the entire response - and NO hitting the page back does NOT work! and to kill any doubters - it is NOT my ISP that dies - so dont mention it. and yes, i know folks are working on the issues - but it is still very frustrating!

Your grades were close RickieB! The grades i sent you in PM were the sellers grades. I didnt even see any images until a few moments before posting this thread. I like all 4 notes, but i also prefer the middle 5, and for the same reasons as you. I dont like the uneven margains in the last 5, or the large spot onthe first 5. I really liked the $10, but i dont like the small tear in the lower right corner.

I heard back from the seller during my first attempt at a reply. Here are his prices and grades for the notes:
    top 5 - F+ $350
    middle 5 - VF $375
    last 5 - VF/XF $475
    lone $10 - F $430.

i am thinking about trying to get the middle 5 (and i wont forget about the 'wiggle room' :D)

also - anyone know why the last 5 has 2 different serial #'s??

Those are some neat notes Daggarjon! Good luck with your decision. The last 5 is really different with the two different serial #s.

Yep..the SN on the bottom left is the Bank SN..the top right is the Treasury SN...

did they start doing that in the middle of the 3rd issue of the 3rd charter period?? All the notes prior had 2 serials that matched. I admit, i dont know alot about the nationals, but i never really saw another national with 2 different serials....

above are 3 $5 notes from the 3rd charter, 3rd issue ... 2 have matching serials... 1 does not... i am a little confused lol

In Kelly's Book he defines it as All Large Size Nationals issued before Sept 1925 carry 2 different SN. The Treasury SN in the upper right reflects the running total of sheets of a particular plate combination printed for all Banks.

The lower left is the Bank SN. It reflects the running total sheets of that plate combination printed for each particular bank. Beginning Sept 1925 there is no Treasury Serial #. Instead the Bank Sn appears twice.

On $1 and $2 nationals The Bank Sn is at the upper right and the Treasury SN is at the left end of the note!

OK :D i finally got the note it! Man did it take forever! Then again, it could have come next day and i would ahve thought the same thing lol

    [IMG][IMG]

i would love to, but doubt i will ever get any of the higher denominations. I have only found 1 $10, and it had a small tear, and it was still outside my price range. I will keep looking as the funds permit, but i might just have to be satisfied with this note :D
