This is Israel's first coin as a state (low mintage identical piece from 1948 exists). It's composed of aluminium and hard to find in nice condition. I have an AU-58 (possible die rotation as well on this one).
While in general I do not like aluminum coins much, a "first piece" has historical significance by itself. I read that the first designs from Israel refer to coin designs found on pieces from the Bar Kokhba period, so I guess it applies to that coin too. Hmm, what does "Closed Link" mean? I don't actively collect coins from Israel, so I have never seen that description before ... Christian
Open Link You are correct Chrisild re designs. See the "open link" version referring to the top clam shaped "link". In my version it is "closed" while the generic design has it more open. Best, Zohar
