Counterfeit pennies?

I pulled these 2 from the same box, the surface appears to be cast.

Who would Counterfeit a Penny? A lot of work for a small return

 

There is obvious doubling on Lincoln's entire face in the 1962d.

Counterfeit coins are not that uncommon, they are a lot less likely to be noticed than paper currency.

Could this be a matte proof possibly?

 

I have seen many cents similar to the two you show and it is probably due to an improper mixture of the compostion!

Both have a signifigant amount of doubling on obverse and reverse, possibly caused by a mold.

If they are genuine, I'd imagine they would be worth quite a bit eh?

 

I had a counterfeit penny once, they didn't even make it out of ther right metal I pitched it in the ocean... Who makes pennies out of aluminum and thinks they'll get away with it, anyhow?

 

I suspect these are genuine cents that were altered outside the mint. Perhaps they were cleaned afterward.

 

A lot of dumb things happened in 1974.

I have a penny that looks exactly like that I often wondered why it looks like that Mine is dated 1948 I believe

 

Looks like both coins met up with an acid bath, it would explain the ghost like doubling effect.
