I actually agree with NGC, because the lustre doesn't look full enough to classify as UNC. It's still a beautiful coin whether AU or UNC.:thumb:
It is a nice one. I have a few Palestine coins myself. 5 Mils 1939 here. Whats the exchange rate for Mils?..nothing. Palestine has nearly been genocided off the map. Mils ceased to be legal tender a few years after Israel was created so I believe
Genocide is a bit harsh. The British ruled the barron land after the Ottoman empire ended. The UN decided post WWII to divide it up and form the state of Israel in some areas while giving the Arabs the rest. When the British Vacated, so did the coins, making the series more rare at higher grades.
Well...best not to get into politics about that. Anyhoo, actually, the Palestine coins I've seen from that era nearly all seem very good grades, presumably they were not in circulated very much before being retired.
I don't want to get drawn into politics on this..otherwise a big arguement will ensue..as it normally does. I'm not debating the founding of the modern state of Israel and how it came about.
