Hey guys, I'm back on after a long hiatus from coins-January of this year I guess! I went onto the Mint's web site last night and was shocked that they are no longer selling silver eagle proofs. Well, in a way I'm not. If you look around on the net there are all these chicken-little types running around talking about the "coming economic depression and crash of our economy" and they are all telling people to buy silver and gold! So its no wonder there is a shortage of silver right now, people are buying the stuff up because they fear the collapse of the dollar. I am not convinced that buying up tons of silver coins is the answer, even though I believe the part about our dollar becoming much like toilet paper. About 2 years ago I had a bunch of silver eagles and sold it off to pay a debt, got away from coin collecting about a year ago when I sold off just about all my collection to include my state quarter and proof set collection. I left coins to persue another hobby and recently decided to casually start my collection again. Until people stop this panic buying of silver, we probably won't be seeing anymore silver eagles for a while. I'm almost glad I dumped my collection because I'd have holes right now. Oh well. I'm back for whatever it's worth!
but 2010 is another story. krispy. we subscribe it because we are playing if the mintage will be low due to short period of time offer by the mint. 2010 might be a lot. just concentrate to 2009 am buffalo one ounce proof. might buy ten.
As per the e-mail that I received from the mint on Oct. 6th.... You do not need to re-subscribe to the 2010 American Eagle Silver Proof and Uncirculated Coin Programs. Prices may change during the course of your subscription. Should the price change for the 2010 coins, the new prices will be listed on your 30-day pre-fulfillment notification. Please review your notification carefully.
I have 100 2009 silver eagles in mint tubes are you suggesting it might be smart to hang on to these as they might have some collector value in the future?. If so how could non collector bullion coins have such a added value? after all, they minted many hundreds of thousands of these they cant be very rare.
The US Mint has made a grave error not having set aside enough of the silver planchets for proof American silver Eagles. I believe even setting aside just 500,000 of the blanks would have been sufficient to satisfy the collector market and allow for upside value on the proof silver coin alone. I just do not buy the line about insufficient blanks available when somewhere in the realm of a whopping 20 million bullion strikes were minted this year. This was the last coin I had been waiting for in order to place my combined order for the year for all my proof and uncirculated sets and first spouse medals.
I don't think the 2009 silver eagle will be worth more than spot plus a small premium once everyone comes to their senses and figures out just how many are out there. They have even been going higher than previous years with lower mintage. Can anyone tell me why demand for 2009 is so great (as opposed to other years mintage that are available now in the market)? Keep them for bullion or change them for previous years, but don't bother saving them for collector value. Just my opinion.
All we can do is hope I seen a blog 3 weeks ago that a few senator & congressman are also P O about 2009 ASE Proof maybe if they ask few key question the mint will be forced in making a 2009 Proof
I got an email from Westminster Mint. They are dumping their 2007W and 2008W silver eagles. Guess they also think this will ruin their collectable value.
As upset as you guys seem to be over this, I hate to imagine what might happen if the mint is no longer able to sell you their bullion coins at all. And that might just happen. Go read the thread I just started in the Bullion forum.
i would be devestated if they stopped selling to me... my ASE's, pandas, tribal coins ect... all in silver.... yes, as upset as i mightbe now... i couldnt imagine not getting any of my silver coins. pure hogwash i say!
