Hey everyone, I found this in my pocket change jar today. I was hoping someone could tell me if this is the error coin Ive read about. I realize the picture isn't the best but it is pretty hard to get a clearer shot, my camera wont focus on copper coins very well. The D is very close to touching the 9 and 6 while being slightly closer to the 6. I used this as a reference, it says the left is large and right is small, mine is the large I'm 99% sure. If this is the coin, does it have any real value or just minimal $2-3? Thanks in advance!
The mintmark was entered near the date, it happens sometimes. There was a previous post where a few members said they collected them. I doubt there is any premium at all on a circulated 1960D with a MM such as this, but maybe someone knows different...
What I can tell form the picture it looks like a 1960 D large date. These Mint Mark can be very close on some coins it is not uncommon.
Maybe by error coin, you are remembering the article in Coin World on the 1960 D/D small over large date DDO variety. This isn't that one, but there are numerous mintmark varieties on the 1960 D and 61 D cents. Jim
Yes I agree a large date The coin unfortunetly has been through hell even if it was an error the value would be a little sorry about that. Brad
Thanks for the information everyone. Yeah the coin isn't in great condition, but I still enjoy finding it.
