Again, I want to thank this community for helping me with my international coins. As a kid I never had any idea what I had. With the internet, it is like magic now. Without the krause book I can only do so much rsearch and I have about 15 coins to go. Anyhow, what the heck is this coin?
It is a 1936 French 10 centimes(KM# 866a) and composed of cupronickel. Mintage of 25,660,000 and at VF, XF Unc it is valued at 50¢, $1.00 and $3.00(respectively). There are small and large hole varieties, but I am not sure if there is any price difference.
The letters RF stand for République Française (French Republic). Typical for French coins is the motto of the French Revolution: Liberté, Egalité, Fraternité (Liberty, Egality, Brotherhood) and the use of the Phrygian Cap, a liberty symbol of the French Revolution.
Thanks! I had all that typed as an edit, but I had one of those famous database errors when I tried to save. I knew I was forgetting something when I added about the hole varieties.
