Again, I want to thank this community for helping me with my international coins. As a kid I never had any idea what I had. With the internet, it is like magic now. Without the krause book I can only do so much rsearch and I have about 15 coins to go.

Anyhow, what the heck is this coin?

The letters RF stand for République Française (French Republic). Typical for French coins is the motto of the French Revolution: Liberté, Egalité, Fraternité (Liberty, Egality, Brotherhood) and the use of the Phrygian Cap, a liberty symbol of the French Revolution.

Thanks! I had all that typed as an edit, but I had one of those famous database errors when I tried to save. I knew I was forgetting something when I added about the hole varieties.
