Has anyone else heard this??? "No proof one-ounce American Eagle gold or silver collector coins will be produced in 2009 by the U.S. Mint. • No “W” mintmarked uncirculated silver American Eagle collector coins, • No proof fractional gold American Eagles, • No “W” uncirculated one-ounce gold American Eagles (the fractionals of this were killed at the end of last year), • No Uncirculated Dollar Coin Set, which would include a “W” silver American Eagle, and • No platinum American Eagle bullion coins." http://www.numismaster.com/ta/numis/Article.jsp?ad=article&ArticleId=7937 hope not
Yeah you and me both on the buffs. It's unfortunate I will not get to buy an ASE proof this year but I wonder what that will do to the price of the 2009 ASE unc?
I'd say the unc 09 ASE will bomb out cause they're making a bazillion of them... maybe just a lousy old bullion coin this year?
found this too: http://www.usmint.gov/pressroom/index.cfm?action=press_release&ID=1070 The United States Mint will not offer the following products in 2009: the one-ounce American Eagle Silver Proof Coin; the one-ounce American Eagle Silver Uncirculated Coin; the American Eagle Gold Proof Coins (all weights, as well as the four-coin set); the one-ounce American Eagle Gold Uncirculated Coin; the United States Mint Annual Uncirculated Dollar Coin SetTM, which also includes a one-ounce American Eagle Silver Uncirculated Coin; and the American Eagle Platinum Bullion Coins (all weights).
I see no impact at all on the 09 ASE bullion coins, the mint announced this week they had already sold 20 million one ounce uncirculated ASE, they will be like the 21 Morgan dollar, common as a date with over 20 mil in circulation. As for the 09 Buffalo Proof, I ready, but I don't believe you will see any more fractional Buffallo coins. As for the price of the 09 Buffalo, it will be as same as the UHR. Sure would love to have had my ASE Proofs and ASE-W for 09, a hole in those collector's albums which will never be filled. Just for those who wonder how many 20 million ASE are, it would be 1,250,000 pounds of .999 silver or 625 tons or over 22 tri axle trucks loaded with 28 tons each. Thats a lot of 09 ASE's, keep smiling
email from the mint: " Dear United States Mint Customer, Production of the United States Mint American Eagle Silver Proof and Uncirculated Coins was suspended this year because of unprecedented demand for American Eagle Silver Bullion Coins. All available silver bullion blanks are being allocated to the American Eagle Silver Bullion Coin Program, as the United States Mint is required by Public Law 99-61 to produce these coins "in quantities sufficient to meet public demand ..." The United States Mint will resume the American Eagle Silver Proof and Uncirculated Coin Programs once sufficient inventories of silver bullion blanks can be acquired to meet market demand for all three American Eagle Silver Coin products. However, due to the continued, sustained demand for American Eagle Silver Bullion Coins, 2009-dated American Eagle Silver Proof and Uncirculated Coins will not be produced. You do not need to re-subscribe to the 2010 American Eagle Silver Proof and Uncirculated Coin Programs. Prices may change during the course of your subscription. Should the price change for the 2010 coins, the new prices will be listed on your 30-day pre-fulfillment notification. Please review your notification carefully. "
Like I've said before, I had hoped that the mint would at least fill the subscription orderd for the W Proof and W Uncs. But no, the UN Mint decided to ignore its collector base and go for the bullion coin alone. They SUCK big time. Now all those who've waiting for the Ws will have to settle for No W BU coin. And watch the prices got up because of more demand. Bruce
Well, there goes the Christmas presents for my two kids. My father always gave a proof Silver Eagle to all the grandkids for Christmas, and I picked that up with his passing. Have to go with the Unc's this year
I guess that I'm going to have a blank in my silver eagle proof collection. How can the mint do this to me? I must returned to the bat cave and ponder this unexpected development.
