Ok, so CoinFest's coming up this weekend in CT. I am about an hour and a half away in long island and can make it up there. Unfortunately, as much as I'd love to stay over one of the night, there's no way I can spend that money. I'm primarily attending because of the proximity and ability to go home afterward and not pay for a hotel. Gas is also a factor, so one day trip looks like all I can do. Question is, on what day to go? Friday is pretty much out of the question, as I'm in class until 11pm, wouldn't be on the road until noon and then weekend traffic from NYC would get me stuck for many hours and I'd be getting there at like 3 if not later. Of course, that could change and I can be overcome with insatiable desire to go RIGHT THERE after class and battle weekend getaway white-collar traffic. So, that leaves me Saturday and Sunday. Here's my rationale between them. Saturday will have more material out on the tables available for purchase. But prices will be high. Sunday stuff will be picked though, but I assume dealers will be more willing to make a deal so they don't have to lug unsold stuff back (at least that's how it works with other hobby conventions). Also, foreign &far-away dealers might ditch out early Sunday and I'm stuck at an empty place with like 10 tables. But, I want that medal they are giving out Sunday to ppl coming in. Arggggg, help me decide, people!
Go Saturday. If it's anything like the major shows here in SoCal, many dealers may not show up at all on Sunday and many others will leave early and it'll make you feel rushed. Also, the willingness to cut good deals on Sunday probably won't be that great as many of these dealers go to shows every weekend and won't let their stuff go away too cheap just because it's the last day of a show. Also, if you have a blast on Saturday you can always go Sunday too
Go Saturday. Skip Sunday for all the reasons stated. It wouldn't hurt to ask the staff for a copy of the medal when you check-in on Saturday. Go early & most importantly -have fun.
I, too vote for Saturday. Rarely does a show go so badly that you'll get any kind of deal on Sunday that you wouldn't get on Saturday.
Sasha, go saturday. From all the shows I have attended, the last day is worst to go. That said I went to the phily coin expo a few weeks go on saturday(shows last day) and was there 30min after opening and it was a third empty, and within a couple of hours dealers were packing up. Total waste of my time and expense of getting there. Just go on saturday, you'll be happy you did. I think the show promoters show require all dealers to stay until the end of the show or some how punish them, but how? Most of all have fun, especially if this is your first real coin show, and did I mention GO SATURDAY! Jim
Let's get back to Friday. It's ok to get there at 3pm because the show doesn't open until 2pm. It closes at 6pm Friday. I have to work the weekend. If I go at all it will be Friday. I don't need to get an early start and I'll still be there in early afternoon. So what if it closes at 6pm. I don't spend any more than 2 hours at a show.
Me too :thumb:. Well it opens at 10 on Saturday, so I'll be there at 10:01 lol, hopefully traffic, and my car will cooperate.
8 Am...... Saturday 8:00 a.m. - Special Guest Speaker - Mr. John Albansese, Founder and President of CAC - Please join for a FREE yummy light Breakfast and a very special Breakroom Type Seminar giving you the chance to ask this coin Superstar Guru Questions and hear is answers... This is one seminar not to miss!
Hoping to be there for 10am. all depends on the great ny roads! hope to see a few people from here...
I agree!! Personally I think the first day of any coin show is the best as dealers want to start unloading right away and you will be part of the first crowd to view the coins. My coin club just had a show last week and it was on Friday and Sat. I went Friday and got a ton of great stuff. I didn't go on Saturday as I was busy with other things and besides I spent more than I should have on Friday.
 I thought that was on Sunday, wrong again. Thanks for the info Ken. I'll now change my original answer, early now means 8.
I'm thinking the same thing! hate to get up that early on a sat morning, but might have to for that seminar.
And maybe we can sneak into the show early after the seminar? That is, if the seminar doesen't run for two hours.....
Si That would be cool, it should be an interesting seminar. Maybe I'll be able to convince John Albanese to give me a sheet of those gold CAC stickers :goofer:.
I will have a sticker on my shirt which says: Do You CoinTalk ? If everyone does the same, then we may recognize each other. Very best regards, collect89
