Hey Gang! This coin walked in the door the other day. It looks like it has a hard life. Note the big planchet flaw on the obverse. Shame about the scratches but overall a seldom seen coin with any meat on it. I am willing to bet that it might have been cleaned a long long long time ago and is retoning. I also was trying out the photo template that was posted in another thread. I think it looks pretty good. what do you think?
It's thing of beauty -- really like the color. The planchet issue is unfortunate. Hope I look that good at 204 years old.
Yep - I think it looks pretty good. Do the pictures make it look better than in person? Poor thing needs a good home for 10 or 20 years. Still not a bad coin.
The reason I said I thought it had been cleaned a long time ago... the surface is just a little too shiny... like maybe it was lightly polished a long time ago... doesn't show much in the pics.
I love Draped Bust silver. The half dollars are great values; they're the highest mintage and least expensive of the DB silver. They make great type coins, since not everyone can afford all denominations of the DB silver.
