tell me how to do it with coins and make it snappy Edit: ok... based on the responses I already got how do I turn $1,000 into $2,000 in less then 2 months with or without coins? I want to be able to get alot of stuff from the mint & apmex and I need a total of $2,800 to do so... yea I'm hoarding...leave me alone...
Really Easy!!!!, Just mail that $1000 to my P.O. Box and in 2 months I will contact you and send you $2000, just don't hold your breath while waiting by the telephone mhahaha
The only guaranteed way I can think of doing this, with very very little to no risk is to buy 2 boxes of half dollars from your bank ($1000 face). Search through them and pull out any silver you find. Cash in the remaining non-silver halves at another bank and repeat this process until you "mine" an extra $1000 worth of silver from the banks which you can then sell. You may have to go through quite a few boxes of halves to get enough silver to turn your $1000 into $2000 though, but it's definitely doable.
Meanwhile you'll starve to death, even if you do make that whopping $500 a month. And you'll probably eat up that $500, or more, in gasoline with all the trips to the various banks. You'll have untold additional miles, wear & tear on your vehicle. You'll lose your job because you won't have time to go to work. All of your possessions that aren't paid for will be repossessed. Many of those that are paid for will be seized by the bankruptcy court. Let's see, did I miss anything ? Probably.
Two words, Currency Markets. And no, not the paper currency, I mean the electronic one. From my experience, it's going to be hard to do that with coins unless you find a real undervalued coin and send it into TPG and they see it as a higher grade. Or, if you get a nice coin for $1200 and it just so happens to jump $1000 the next month. Highly doubtful, but I've seen it happen in my limited time of collecting/investing.
Easy. Take 1,000 Australian $ in coins, and get paper money for them (easier to exchange). Now buy East Caribbean $ with that money. The current rate is 2.39, but of course changing the money will cost a little, so you will end up with roughly $2,000 for your $1,000 ... Should not really take you two months. Christian
A serious response: It is doable. I have done it before when I was in a crunch. Buy semi keys with blurry photos on eBay, and NEVER pay full price. Always keep you bid 35% low. Then, practise, practise, practise with your coin photos. Learn to take great high detail coin pictures, and repost them on eBay. If you bid low enough initially, on the blurry photo auction, and if you get *lucky* and get a nice coin. Then your set. Be prepared to be playing a ping pong game with your paypal account. Up, down, up, down.
Two many Such a plan should involve folks with too many kneecaps. Are you talking gross or net? Include bail $......and have a nice day. ps Then there is always the lottery. But if you are that lucky it will just happen no matter what you do, so why try?:smile
What I would do is rip all of your teeth out of your mouth, put them under your pillow, and wait for Mr. Fairy from fairy Land to come by.
When I was a poor coin collecting college student, I used to go to local coin shows with a friend and we would make a game out starting out with a certain amount of cash($10 or so) and see how much we could turn it before the end of the day. Often times we would cherrypick cheap semi-keys and then trade and sell our way to well over double. Gave us a chance to test all the things required for good cherry picking. Snag a 10-s Lincoln and swap it for a low grade 20-d Merc and so on, end of the day sell out.. Not a bad game to play today. Challenge a friend to start with $25 and see how much can be made by the end of a day, week or month. Could be done at coins shows, ebay, TT or wherever.
I have another suggestion...send it to me and I'll put it in a slot machine. Might even triple your $1000! Of course, the saying "what happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas" is referring to your money more than anything else, so I'm using that same disclaimer as my backup. Guy~
Oh, why did you have to ruin it with all of those pesky details Of course you're right that there may be significant expenses/time involved, but you could always get very lucky and get a box of halves with a bunch of silver on your first try ...very unlikely though.
Start a Ponzi letter. That way you can work out of your home, not waste gas. Say hi to Madoff when you two hook up.
Spend $200 on used books and price guides, and spend 7 weeks reading them like there's no tomorrow. Take your remaining $800 and in your last week go to a state-wide or national coin show with at least 200 dealers. Look at everything, especially bargain bins, binders of coins, and net price boxes. Cherrypick, bargain, and resell for serial small profits.
Buy a $1000 of high quality Chinese counterfeits, sell your soul to the dark one, sell your coins as real to the unknowing masses on Ebay. It has been working for hundreds of people for the last several years. Jim
I'll go you one better. Here's a way to turn only $25.25 into $2,000, entirely with coins. You could also do it with 101 coins of any other denomination. (Be sure to add two more zeros to your hard copy of the picture - I ran out of quarters.)
Illini has a point though -- I have found several silver half dollars in only a few rolls; I know some posters here have made phenomenal finds in boxes of halves. Maybe good for a passive approach to growing that $1,000 into $2,000, but he's right -- go for the rolls and boxes of halves. You WILL find coins of value in them, especially if you are patient.
