Should we have a Buchanan First Spouse Coin?

Here is something I just read in the latest issue of Coin World that made me ponder the question......should we even have a first spouse coin for President Buchanan since he was the only president that was never married? Think about it. Apparently members of the CCAC brought this point up during their review for the obverse and reverse of the 2010 coin. As quoted in CW, "Since Buchanan remained a bachelor all his life, his place in the spouse series may seem questionable". Maybe a small oversight by Congress? Who knows. But it appears that he is still getting a first spouse coin. However it turns out, I can't wait to see Gobrecht's Liberty on the obverse.....definitely a site to see!

Although I have thoroughly enjoyed collecting and viewing all the Liberties on the First Spouse coins, I personally feel that the series should have strictly honored the first spouses and possibly the official White House hostesses for those presidents that did not have wives while in office.

As the latter poster suggests, he may well have been of the opposing persuasion. Perhaps the Barber design for the dime - half would be appropriate, albiet some 45 years later.

Buchanan's niece Harriet would have been appropriate, since she was de facto White House hostess, and from I've read, a pretty popular one, too.
