My 2 boxes of mint rolls Kansas SQ's arrived today. I haven't opened a box yet though I probably will. Anyone else get theirs yet? I ordered within an hour of going on sale.
I got my single set today. I also ordered right after they went on sale. Haven't looked at them yet, but I'm planning on putting half of them in Air-Tites and sending them off to family and friends. This is my favorite quarter design so far.
Kansas Mint Wrapped Rolls I received my Kansas rolls two days after they went on sale on Aug 29. I was surprised they arrived on the 31st. The mint usually sends me an email about three weeks ahead of time telling me to review my order and make changes if needed in my subscription. I only have a small subscription for 2 each of the SQ rolls, and this sure seems the best way to go to assure that you receive items in a prompt manner. I think items go to a B/O status fairly soon after one or two days pass. At leaset this is what happens with my orders of non-annual items. I have never had any trouble or delays in getting my shipment of the annual coin sets until this year and along came the satin finish mint sets. They must have really blew it in their estimates of how many people would be ordering, and how many sets to make and have on- hand at release. Thanks, Jim
Okay, I've sorted the D roll. These are fabulous, much better condition than the 2005 nickels (of course), and the fields gleam. I'm not sure if this is what you'd call "near proof", but they're very reflective. I ordered three more sets.
I'm not nearly as impressed with the P roll. There are more nicks (nothing like the nickels) and spots, and the fields don't gleam like my Ds.
I’ve given a little more thought as to why I like this design. It doesn’t have too many thematic elements (for example, corn + cow + cheese). It only has two elements, and even better, they work together: the bison is standing in a field, the sunflower is growing in the field. There is a cohesiveness to the theme. The design is reasonably radially symmetrical, and the fields are on the perimeter instead of the center. The hump of the bison brings the design “north”, the sunflowers “west”, the bison head “east”, and the patch of field “south”. Subject matter: a majestic animal and an indigenous flower. For a really classic coin, I would prefer less field area, but for a state quarter I think it succeeds.
I would sure agree with you on the quality of these "D" mint quarters. They did a great job of keeping them fresh and clean this time. There is only one point that should be made at this time however; and that is you were fooled into thinking the image of the sunflower was nothing more than an indigenous flower. Nothing could be further from the truth. What you are calling a sunflower is actually non other than our own forum member hunting Kansas Buffalo last winter. Crystalk decided to skip the breach cloth and indian get-up and go as a native plant. Seemed to work as he must have fooled the Buffalo he was hunting. The other two flowers shown are his gunbearer and guide. Lets hear it for Crystalk the greata white hunter!
By the time your bank gets the Kansas quarters, you may not be 11 years old any longer. Sometime it takes quite some time for the federal reserve to get them out to all their member banks.
You are forgetting that just like some people collect error coins, others collect boxes, or wrappers, or shipping invoices etc.
Do you think it'll be available for a while, like 2 weeks more? I have to wait for some money to come in and I want to order the Chief John Marshall too as the same time to save on shipping. When you receive the rolls from the mint, do you search them and repackage them into the same condition or you just don't search them at all?
