I hope these images show up I am not a photographer nor am I Computer literate. Let me know what you would grade this Flying Eagle cent I love it and you want hurt my feelings unless you say melt it for the copper. I have compared it to 3 graded pieces that i thought looked close and used descriptions of what to look for to grade Flying Eagles. That being said I know very little and would appeciate your input.
    Thanks Kent

my first thought was EF-45, or possibly AU-50. How much luster remains?

Probably not enough to move above AU. I wish you could see it, like everybody says it would look nicer in hand, no I am not sending it to be evaluated LOL. My photo skills need work at least the Eagle didn't shut it's eye like the kids do when i try to take their picture.

Another nice copper piece Kent! Though it has a couple marks in the field and the typical weak tail feathers, I'd give it XF+ as well. From the photos, it looks uncleaned and original too!

Thanks Charmy I am learning and I got a good deal on this one I mean real good. The dealer gave me price and I had to leave the shop and come back because I was so shocked, and I didn't want to start stuttering.

I collected coins back in 80's and got out of it but recently with help of my 6 year old nephew I started over to help him out. I had always wanted one and when I saw this on I and heard what they wanted I bought it. Now I want both the SL and LL 1858's in at least this good of condition so I will be patient they will show up. Should I have it graded?

  9. Looks nice to me Kent! In your options, make sure you have the WYSIWYG option turned ON. Then, you can right click a picture, click Copy, and just paste it into the body of the post...Like I am doing with your Image here below...

It works with Fotki (the BEST image hose around), photobucket and Facebook for sure, I have not tried it from anywhere else.

Hi Kent, depends on the purpose for sending it to get certified, but IMO I would just keep it the way it is. Also, it does have a few scratches/dings, so I think it is likely they would put it in a genuine holder (PCGS) or net grade it (NGC). Btw, if you're looking for the 1858 flying eagles, feel free to take a gander at the inventory list on my website. ;)

It looks between the ef-45 and the au=50 in my making the grade book, ef-47?

Of course the reverse makes a difference also, and from what i have learned here the grade is the lower of the two. Nice coin, much better than the eagle I bought for 75 cents.

It is a very nice EF piece Kent. Keep it as it is my friend.

Kent , nice piece , EF-45 , looks original . I have to get one for my type set .
I wouldn't have it slabbed , but would put it in a Intercept Shield 2X2 , I like how a coin looks in them with the black background .

Well I agree with everyone else looks XF to me and I would keep it raw also.

I'm just curious. Why are some of these experts saying not to slab? Is it because it's not worth the money to slab it? Just curious

I'm wondering if some of the marks on the obverse are die clash marks. There are several scarce varieties in which the obverse die was clashed with another denomination, including a $20! It might be something you could find out from Rick Snow's site.

Kent, it's a nice looking FE. IMO it's an EX45 grade due to the slight wear on the breast feathers, rear tail feathers and the couple of dings on the obverse. I wouldn't bother getting it slabbed as it's a fine coin you can put in an album and as you know, it's the coin not the holder. Think save you TPGing fees.

One is the cost and second is it has some issues that may not let it be graded and have it end up in a genuine slab and third there is no need to . JMO

I'm seeing a bit of what looks like clash marks on the obverse.
Not one of the Multi-denominational clashes but something.
