Mint error or just an alteration?

    Hey, I have a dime that is very weird on the front. It kinda looks like someone tried to alter with with a drill or something, but I'm not sure. The back of the dime is just fine.

    I have never seen anything like that, but to me it appears to be post mint damage. Looks like file marks at 7 and 11 oclock, larger pics would help. I am sure the experts will chime in shortly

    Post mint damage indeed they tried to do many things to this coin and make it a fake error ,and boy did they fail.

    Welcome to the forum brandino. It's definitely post mint damage. What they were trying to do? Who knows for sure, only them.

    It looks like a coin that was in a cloth dry for sometime

    Welcome to the forum. I basically agree with your assessment that someone, using a fast rotating tool (like a drill), ground off the face.

    That's what I was thinking as well. I'll try and get some better pics up later tonight just to be sure. I guess my scanner isn't the best.
