Has anyone ever noticed touched up photos on E-bay? Yesterday I noticed a coin that was so touched up it was laughable, I wanted that coin but cannot bid on a touched up photo even if the seller has 100% feedback. I checked his other items for sale and the first 5 I looked at were all touched up. I've done a lot of photo touchup in my work so maybe I notice what some would assume to be a cheap camera job.
never seen any that I thought were touched up. Some programs allow you to lighten or darken an image in order to bring out some details. People do this pretty often, but I don't think that's necessarily touched up... although it can mislead a buyer.
Yup - lots of times. I can understand and accept lightening or darkening a pic to a degree. But when you change the saturation, apply a mask, clone colors or even parts of the devices - nope, that's a no-no
To lighten or darken a photo is a neccesity but to use the "remove dust or blemish" function on a photo program is trying to deceive viewers and that is not right. And that is obviously what this seller is doing. It looked to me that the seller was trying to cover scratches and to make the fields look unblemished. Now I dont like to see anyone be deceived into bidding, it should all be on the up and up and done in an honest fashion.
Absolutely... For instance, I have been trying to sell these 1877 Morgan dollar where my starting bid is $1,000,000. These were "accidentially" made by mint officials during the last years of the U.S. Trade dollar production. They have been in my family for years and I have about 14 of them for auction. Any bidders? I just don't understand why the buyers want these coins authenticated...don't you trust me?
Check this one out. He went the other way with it ....LOL http://cgi.ebay.com/1932-S-WASHINGT...ryZ39462QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem#ebayphotohosting
