this may be a ridiculous question, but... do the 90% silver quarter proof sets contain the amount of silver in the pre-1964 silver quarters? if so, what is the weight per quarter? assuming each quarter contains the same amount, each one has almost $3.00 of silver. why do the silver state quarter proof sets sell for less than spot?
silver quarter proof set; mint price $29.95 plus $4.95 shipping fee 6 pc silver quarter cost around $15.00 or less.
thanks elaine- i should clarify- if the spot price of silver is, $16.20, the value of the silver in the quarter is is $2.9297. this being the case, a set of 5 quarters, any 5 silver quarters, is worth $2.9297 X 5. What I don't understand is: if the bullion investors pay so much over spot for any given coin, why do the silver proof quarters sell for below spot? am i missing something?
2009 silver quarter proof set contained 6 pc of silver quarter. presume the price of each silver quarter is $3.00. then the total is $18.00. the mint sell $29.95 for 6 pc of silver quarter. the mint make huge profit for that. isn't it?.
those were above spot not below. one pc of silver quarter contained 0.180845 oz of silver. spot silver closed at $16.18. so 1 pc of silver quarter worth $2.9260721. a set contained 6 pc of silver quarters. so the total amount is 6 times $2.9260721 equal $17.56 per set. the mint sell those 6 pc for $29.95 plus $4.95 shipping. total is $34.95/set. mint earn a lot.
I assume you mean the after market. If you can get 'em for less than melt you're doin' real fine indeed......:smile
At a show last week a dealer was selling the sets for $2 above the silver melt. I still didn't buy them.
