Somewhat of a different idea for a contest. There are threads in this forum around the new Westward series nickels. There are some that are predicting that to find even one of these in circulation will be extremely difficult. That generated an idea that maybe someone could sponsor a contest whereby whomever found one in circulation first would win whatever the sponsor's prize would be. I believe that we should restrict any nickels procured from the mint (obviously), but also any procured from the bank via bags or rolls as the spirit of the contest would be to find one in circulation..change from a vendor, vending machine, etc. I can't sponsor it as I don't have the means to provide a prize. I was just thinking of how neat it could be to do this if it will really be that difficult to find these in circulation as some are predicting.
might be a little to hard to (dis)prove if the nickel actually came from circulation........ nice idea though
I realize that, that's why the stakes can't be too high and of course it would have to on the honor system......hopefully the folks here are honest enough that it could work....
I would win! I have found both already in circulation! (I hope I know what you are talking about) -Bobby
Well that proves my theory. There were some comments in the Main Forum that it would be most likely impossible to get these in circulation. I disagreed and you have now supported my thoughts on that. Thus, no need for the contest as it was over before it even started. Thanks for replying. Where did you get these in circulation. I cannot wait to find one.
I want to say I recieved them in normal change. I honestly couldnt tell you exactly. I dont buy rolls or anything like that (yet?), Ive just got into watching my coins and I did not note where I found them. I was just very happy when I did. -Bobby
what are westward nickels? sorry im new so i wouldnt know. i would sure like to find out and find one though new
I obtained a couple of rolls from the bank last week, and I spent a few at the store, so I am doing my part to get them into circulation. I rarely receive any of the past 2 nickeks that came out in 2004 in circulation.
I agree. I have found both (several of the 2004's) in circulation. Westward Journey Nickels are coins commemorating the Louisiana Purchase, Lewis and Clark Expeditions (2004), and now (2005) feature a new obverse, and a bison and/or Ocean-View reverse. SEE:
I think you should only recieve the coin in change... I work retail, and open 2 rolls a DAY just working regularly I've only received 3 Buffalo's in change since the came out, the rest are from my rolls and the guy who gave it to me in change when I aksed if he had more (he just opened up a whole roll of them!).
My kid got one of the new "buffalo nickels" in change. Reported it directly to mom, who found one of the old buffalo nickels "in change". Why is that in quotes? Well, heck. My change jar sits close to the table where I do a lot of sorting. Think it fell in there, as that's where she found it. Oh well, it got her interested in the hobby for about 10 minutes. That's how long it took her to find out on eBay that a 36P in G-F condition is worth, oh about 5¢.... I ain't about to tell her where it came from, though. vger
First post! (^_^) Are these the nickels you're talking about finding for the contest? 2005 Westward Series Nickels Unfortunately, I live in Canada, so I have no chance of finding these.
