I phoned the mint this afternoon and spoke with one of the phone supervisors. (Katrina) I questioned why my mint set order of 7/2/05 was now backordered until 11/18/05. She told me that demand has been extremely high for the satin finish coins, but that orders from July and early August should be filled by the middle of September. She said they have on contract the packaging company and they have promised to have them ready for the mint to ship during the middle of September. She also told me that the 11/18/05 date will change to a later date within a few days. She told me that date is for recently ordered coins. I took that to mean coins ordered after the middle of August. I also ask her about the tv coin shows having all the state quarters they can sell and a higher price than offered by the mint. She was unable to give me an answer only to say orders were filled on first come first serve basis. Jim
Thanks for the info Jim, Did she say anything about when the mint would stop taking orders or how many sets they would be minting?
2005 Unc Sets Knowtracks - I did tell her I hoped as do many other collectors that I would not be shutout in the end as I was with the 2004 Coin & Metal Sets. Order a set and then be told at the last minute, it had been cancelled. She told me there was no there was no danger in that happening with mint sets. She went out of her way to assure me that mint sets were plentiful. She also told me there was no problem with minting the coins and getting the satin finish. She didn't say much about it, but she did say there was a slight packaging problem that the mint discovered. And again, she said the amount of mint sets ordered was huge. No numbers, just huge. When I call the mint again, I am going to phone them on a Tuesday and ask for Katrina. I wish I had her last name, but I didn't get it. Super nice person that answered every one of my questions. Jim
well, there goes these sets being worht anything in the short term ( unlike the 04 sets ) "She went out of her way to assure me that mint sets were plentiful."
Thanks for the reply Rugen, I was begining to wonder if I was going to be shut out. Like alot of other folks they keep delaying my shipping date.
The Mint pulled a fast one this year. There is no unc set being sold this year. The 2005 set is "satin finished" not unc.
2005 Unc Sets My order on the mint website for 2005 Unc Sets just today changed from B/O to 11/18/05 to 'In Stock and Reserved'. The lady at the mint did tell me they were expecting to ship 2005 Unc Mint Sets approx the middle of September. This is a little earlier than she expected, for which I am thankful. It appears it is just like the the lady on the phone at the mint told me. Just a huge amount of orders for the satin finish sets, but they would get to everybody's order, and people would not be shut-out by the mint quiting early with the minting process on the Unc Sets. Jim
Thanks for the update Jim, I "tracked" my order at the mint after reading your last post. And it says the mint set is still backordered until 11/18. But it says that the Unc Marine Corp Comm. is now in stock & reserved. So maybe I'll get something coming my way after all.
2005 satin finish mint sets Keep an eye on your satin finish coin order, my USMC Proof like yours also now says 'In stock and reserved'. Jim
My 2005 Satin Mint set arrived yesterday. I had ordered it the first day it was released and returned it because of bag marks and uneven finish. The replacement set, even though it took three and a half months, is much better in quality.
3 months and they finally arrived today. Not even going to open the boxes so who knows what lies within!! Probably something I didn't even order.
2005 satin finish sets I just received emails from the mint that they have shipped my 4 satin finish sets and the USMC Proof. My Legacy Set which was B/O until 11/18 is now 'In Stock and Reserved'. The 05 Coin and Metal Set I ordered on 5/26 is now showing as, 'In Stock and Reserved.' They must be getting to some of the backordered items now. The lady at the mint told me it would be the middle of September before they would start to ship satin finish sets. Looks like she gave me good info. Jim
