Hi to all, What is "bun head" in Great Britain

    It is merely a name used to denote a series from the Victoria coins. They have the young head, the old head, the Jubilee and the bun head. May even be more, but those are the ones I recall.

    'Bun Heads' are particular to the bronze denominational coinage from 1860 to 1893. The 'young-head' portrait on base-metal coinage was only used as far as I'm aware on the pre-1860 'large-sized' copper issues of 1/4d 1/2d and 1d, and from 1894 (or thereabouts) the 'old head' portraits were used until the end of her reign....

    And the 'gothic head' used for florins from 1848-1887... I think the Canadians used their own portrait of Queen Vic on their coins at some point as well...
