A couple of plain jane large cents for my plain jane collection. Nothing special the 1811 has a couple of little(my opinion) rim bumps, but still overall it fits with its buddies in the dansco album. The 1857 is really nicer in hand. As always all opinions good/bad are always welcome. Using big pictures for the fun of it - been a while since I received some new ones.
Some nice looking 'Honest" copper there mark_h. Love the look and feel of those old cents. Just think of the history that 1811 has been through.
Just love the diversion of honest, original, wonderful and beautiful coins such as these, don't you! Thanks, Mark, we needed this. Kiss
Thanks all. And with the history of this country sometimes it makes me wonder how any of the older coins survived. And I would love to figure out away to determine survival rate. And yes one of the things I do is usually look for posts with pictures of coins first and then the other threads.
Looks good to me. I need more large cents, I only have one, an 1852. Have seen a bunch in person but none that I wanted for my collection. Is the 1811 an overstrike of 1810?
Great Large Cents. The 11/10 shows beautifully even with the wear on this fine piece. The coin certainly tells us about a time when cents meant something and were used until they wore away vs. being consigned to a penny jar. Thanks for sharing.
Mark, Ron Manley has done some good work on the survival rates, the information you are looking for for the Classis heads can be found in the May 2001 copy of Penny-Wise. I'll try and send it to you in a PM. It is too extesive to summerize here and I can't just post it because it is copyrighted material. OK 4 PM's sent, the tables apparently will not display correctly so I would recommend copying the PM's into a Word document and inserting spaces to realign the columns.
Right as always. I started to add to the original thread how many hours of pain staking work it was to attribute the two coins, but then figured only maybe a few(very few) people would have got the joke.
Thank you so much. I have not have time to format, but started cutting and pasting last night - this will save me a bunch of time. Have I mentioned I hate ms-word lately. Thanks again!
I like both of them, beautiful. I have a few large cents but not enough in my position. One of these days I'll find a nice classic head.
