Old Irish/Celtic Coin

    We're both wrong I'm afraid. The goldgulden from the site you found is not a match. Look at the colonade on the left side of the obverse on the OP's coin. It's not there on the goldgulden.

    But it is there on this coin - from the same site you found. The coin is silver - not gold.

    groschen (23 mm), no date
    St. Peter , arms , canopy / 4 arms in trilobe
    Bacherach mint
    FRID C P R DVX BA
    MONETA NOVA BACH

    And I learned that there are silver coins that thin :eek:

    You got it! I can make out the FRID...amazing how those gothic letters can fool you at first.

    No problem,it was fun.I still don't know what your coin is worth but I doubt that is why you own it.
    I think we determined that your coin is a hammered silver groschen of Friedrich I of Bavaria circa 1449-1476 minted at Bacherach mint.The person on the front is St. Peter Enjoy

    Oh yeah,just to set the record straight,AidanWork pretty much nailed it in the third reply to your thread..that it was a German States coin..good call!!
