1946 D Cent with large crack on back

    I was going through coins and moving them from envelopes to 2X2 holders and found this minting error on an uncirculated coin. It looks much brighter in person. My photos make it look dull for some reason. Still working on it.

    Just curious, what would you call this error?

    Looks like post mint damage to me. The coin is not Unc in my opinion - the dark spots you can see on Lincoln's face are from wear.

    I agree with GDJMSP on all counts...I would have thought that since it looks almost like a cut it would have shown on both sides...

    Could be damage. Could also be a lamination error. In other words, you may be looking at a flake that's starting to lift up.

    Looks to me as if it is a defective planchet. As for the wear on the cheek I would believe it was from being in the envelope and rubbing.
