I recently bought one lot of paper money (7 notes), I was wondering if they are genuine, and any other background information you could provide.
I dont see anything that jumps out as fake... but i dont know enough about the issues to tell anyway... I see a couple Germany P-85's, P-83, Maybe a P-31 or 32.... when the catalog doesnt show a picture, i cant be too sure lol
They are all German notes from the 1922-3 inflationary period except the 20 kronen note and the 20 franc note which are from Bohemia and Moravia and Belgioum, respectively. Bohemia and Moravia was a German-controlled protectorate established prior to WWII made up of the part of Czechoslovakia that was not incorporated in to the Reich and excluding Slovakia which was independent. The top nonte in the first post and the bottom note in the third post are local issues from the German city of Trier. They are all fairly common notes that might have a combined value of $15.00. I have no reason to believe the notes are not genuine. Counterfeiting these notes was not common because they had little or no face value even when they were issued because of the rapid inflation. The current catalog value does not make them good candidates for copying either, although that has not stopped the Chinese from making modern copies of notes that do not have much catalog value, either.
Great info guys, with your help I was able to track down pictures and some more information on all but the private issues from Trier, which helped me identify where the years came from and certain issues. I didn't figure these were worth much I just found them interesting, I think I paid $9 for the lot. Thaks for all the help :thumb:
Although I didn't post it yesterday, I am VERY happy because I figured the one note was from the Protectorate of Bohemia & Moravia. I'm really happy about that, because before now the only notes I could easily ID were the issues from the USA, or notes that had what the English translation of their name very prominently on the note. While I'm sure that doesn't mean a thing to anybody, it means a great deal to me, as it shows I am learning more about world notes I think you got a good buy too, and for $9 I would also have purchased them. Thanks for sharing!
The lower denomination notes from Bohemia-Moravia are faves in my collection because they all had lovely ladies on them. http://www.scottishmoney.net/banknotes/bohemia/bohemia.html
Thanks everyone, I will be posting a bunch of world notes this week as I have time to photograph them. Most of them I think I know the year and country of origin, but I always enjoy your expert opinions and tidbits on them.
