I have several 1990 MS 70 Silver Eagles and I'm looking to sell. Where is the best place to sell them? Do you take too big a of hit on ebay? Thanks, Ben
What he means is that after posting a minimum of 10 times, you can then post in the open section of CT. This is the section where you can offer numismatic items for sale or trade. As for the value of what you can expect to get... I don't know....I haven't looked to see what a MS70 would bring, but I am sure that it would definitely be over $50, maybe over $100. It would be helpful to know if it is slabbed.....like the one pictured..... or in something else such as another type of holder or box. Also, knowing what the name of the company that encapsulated the coin would be helpful too. I would assume based on the fact that you said it was MS70 that it is slabbed in a holder like the one below.
A quick search of ebay finds various prices for ANACS products. Although ANACS is a very good company, when compared to the other big two grading companies...NGC and PCGS...the ANACS coins don't see to hold the same value. Based on what I saw, I would say the coin is worth anywhere between $40-80. Maybe a little less or maybe a few dollars more depending on how you market it and if people are in the buying mood. Hope this helps. Good luck.
4 1990 Silver Eagles graded MS70 have been sold at Heritage with prices ranging from $862 to $1265. All of these coins were graded by NGC. I agree an ANACS grade might bring a little less, but not a whole lot.
Why don't you look on Heritage and let me know how often you see an ANACS slabs anywhere? How about Teletrade? How about DLRC Auctions? You see them, but very rarely. These auctions houses aren't stupid. What sells is NGC and PCGS. I don't have the time to really do some research into this, but I can't see an MS70 ASE Anacs selling for $800 or anything near that. I would speculate at most....$200-250. Thats not taking anything away from the coin because the coin may be a stunner, but that is the power of the slabs for you. Ultimately, I am not saying that it can't happen, but I just want to be shown where it has happend....any time recently. Thanks.
Isn't the 800 figure for four coins total? I understood the post to mean four slabbed coins at one auction not 800 each.
The problem is that coin was graded and slabbed by ANACS after ANACS was bought by a new owner and they changed, greatly loosened, their grading standards. I seriously doubt you could get $100 for that coin. Probably around $60 would be more realistic. And only somebody who didn't know what was going on would pay that much. Somebody who does know, might give ya $29 for it.
MS-69 MS-70, the only difference between the two is the label and the price tag.. I for one, will never own a 70...
You can find ANACS slabs on Heritage. In fact, if you go to their sold archive and look under Morgan Dollars...they have listed 32,659 ANACS coins sold (as opposed to 66,206 PCGS and 50,375 NGC). That's Morgan's alone They list 2 1990 ASE's sold in ANACS slabs. One was MS69 and sold in 2006 for $25 and the other was MS67 and sold in 2004 for $22. I doubt an MS70 would be much more because as GD said ANACS has gone down hill since they were bought out. Their MS70 isn't anything compared to a PCGS or NGC. Here are the links to those 2 auctions: http://coins.ha.com/common/view_item.php?Sale_No=26074&Lot_No=14114 http://coins.ha.com/common/view_item.php?Sale_No=24114&Lot_No=11951
I'm surprised you put ANACS on a par with SGS and the like now. This could be an interesting topic for a new thread.
I don't think he is saying that. SGS is a front for selling coins. They encapsulate their own coins and sell them online as one company. ANACS was bought by new owners and their quality has decreased since. Several years ago, PCGS and NGC were considered #1 top tier and ANACS was next in line. These days, ANACS has dropped further below PCGS and NGC. I would compare them to...what PCI was. Just a mid-tier TPG. But, they are certainly not SGS...ANACS is a TPG, SGS is a front to sell overgraded coins on eBay as certified.
What you and some others would find even more surprising is that the old ANACS was probably the toughest, or strictest, grading company there was. Try finding even 1 coin, of any kind, in old ANACS slab that is graded as MS70. With NGC and PCGS you can find tons of them. But I'd bet you can't find 3 in an ANACS slab.
Although I fully agree with you that old ANACS was very strict and didn't give out 70s like PCGS or NGC...I can't resist a challenge. So here are your 3 MS70s in old ANACS slab: :goofer: http://coins.ha.com/common/view_item.php?Sale_No=21022&Lot_No=2479 http://coins.ha.com/common/view_item.php?Sale_No=275&Lot_No=7382 http://coins.ha.com/common/view_item.php?Sale_No=389&Lot_No=9750 But in all seriousness, you are very correct. Just look over at HA if you don't believe GD. These 3 are about the only old ANACS slabbed MS70s listed in their complete auction archive. There might be a couple more...but not many.
stunned Jaceravone, Thank you for your research. I'm stunned by the the drastic price drop that most people are saying an ANACS brings as opposed to a PCGS or NGC. i've been told that it costs about $30 to get a coin certified. if people are smart, could they buy an ANACS MS 70 and get it graded by PCGS and then turn a nice profit? Thanks, Ben
