I havn't come across that many im my 40 years of collecting maybe five so they are uncommen, and your right they are errors ,and they are called displaced MM and they don;t fetch that much of a premium because there's not thet much interest in them that;s the only reasos ,The ones that I mention the MM touching the date are somewhat rare errors. Did you come acros any of these in your hunting through wheaties how many? Jazzcoins Joe
I have seen a number of these over the years but errors don't really interest me. But, if they were rare then error collectors would be willing to pay a premium for MM's touching other devices like this. I'll admit, the MM being in contact with another feature is rarer than a moved MM not touching anything...but that doesn't make it uncommon.
They are not rare at all have had upward of 2 or three hundred They are not rare at all have had (and searched) upward of 2 or three hundred bank wrapped rolls, one opened mint sewn bag and one still sewn of 1958-D Lincoln's in the last 15 years - out of those I found this coin at least 10% of the time maybe 15%. I do not consider them rare or anthing unusal but I guess you could consider that they are mis-placed but it'a a mis-place that no one I know of cares about or attaches any premieum to or has assigned any die variety disignation to.
Well may somebody should look at these as an error when the mm touches another element of the date if they put it in a certain cataglory maybe there will be an interest in them, and a nice premium. I feel this could be a significant error if they make them known to be. Jazzcoins Joe
Wow that's how much I was paying attention there is a 1958-D exactly Wow that's how much I was paying attention there is a 1958-D exactly like this one and the post I made was in regards to the 58-D I have searched. I could never have afforded that many 56-D's (much bigger dies in that year). I have seen both though and again if they were anything special I would say so.
Additionally if you like these things, 1953-S & 54-S have the Additionally if you like these things, 1953-S & 54-S have the sme type mint-marks very close to or touching the "9".
Mintmarks close to the date is not uncommon. Here is a picture of a couple I have on 3 different dates that are pretty close.
