I would be interested to see what our Ancient experts think of the following authenticity debate I found on the net. guy http://severusalexander.com/answers.htm
Very good Bart :thumb: Now I know diddley about ancients. But I can tell you this, disagreements about such things among recognized experts abound. And not just in ancients, but in all coins. And I can honestly say that I have yet to even hear of a case where one of them gave in to the other side. Even when confronted with incontrovertible evidence, they stick to their original story. Not that I am saying that either side in this case has such evidence, but there have been plenty of other cases. Take Gobrecht dollars for example, there have been controversies surrounding these coins since they were struck ! But check the new Numismatic News for a story that throws most of the old accepted "facts" right out the window. Stuff like this will never go away.
I'm no expert on Severus Alexander but those photos are sufficiently bad that I'd hope no one offers an opinion on the coins based only on them. I'm not terribly surprised that there is a difference of opinion between the two experts mentioned. This is not an exact science and we all are learning as we go.
