Great set of hobos, BNB. I admire anyone who can pack that much detail into such a tiny space.

Hi, BNB Analytics. How did people use Hobo Nickels as money? Were those nickels still worth five cents?

    That's a great question..

I'd defer to someone more experienced than me on the board to answer that..

His are good but if you get the Hobo nickel guide book off hobonickels.org you'll see other many talented artists out there too..

You should see the prices on some of these... $200-$1000+

I still can't believe I got away with paying under $50 for all of mine ;)

Be sure to check out the link directly above your post for some great information about Hobo Nickels.

I don't know the full story about the Hobo Nickels as I don't really collect them, but it's my understanding that the homeless at the time would take one of these Nickels and carve them into a mini piece of art which they would then use to trade for a meal, a place to sleep for the night or presumably anything they needed with a value of over the face value of five cents.

But I think he means can you still use the carved nickels as legal tender??
