What grade is this 1848 large cent?

it's difficult to tell from a photo - it would guess XF or AU, but that would depend on how much hairline you have.

 

I was thinking XF, my dad got it for $8.oo 25-30 years ago

 

It looks about XF to me too. Is that a spot of verdigris on the obverse?

 

No that was a crumb on the scanner

 

Is LIBERTY full??...I mean...can you see all of the letters in LIbeRTY clearly?

If so I would say F-15-VF20

That's a good point. I assumed with what I could see of the hair and the eye, that the liberty was full, but if there is wear on the liberty, that would knock it down to VF.

 

Everything is very clear (bad pics) All features are full, hence slight wear on the cheeks and leafs on back. The main problem is that the coin has quiter a few scratches, but other than that its fairly strong

 

You can faugly see the LIB, but the ERTY is very clear and as bold as MS

 

Then since the scratches I would say F at the most...

Looks better than F to me, I'll invert the colors so the coin is lighter

 

Now the pics are inverted to light blue if that helps

 

To make VF it would have to have a better LIBERTY IMO....

Oh, other than the liberty and the few niks the coin is a even brown color with light wear
