    It's a fairly common design, with lots of different types. Right now, I see 6 examples for sale on MA-Shops, and 11 on VCoins.

    Thanks @DonnaML, I checked it after seeing it in your post and I was glad it's not a big rarity. I will hunt it, it's one of my favorite parts in collecting :D

    12 hours. I'm still not 100% on the identification of this but I think I'm as close as I'll get after looking at dozens on dozens of examples trying to narrow it down. This came as a freebie from a Russian metal detector.

    I usually ID coins quickly but I had to ask for help for that one, which stayed unidentified for two or three years. It was before in my father's small collection he had as a teen, and he had no clue what it was. I couldn't figure the obverse and the mark below the chi-rho.

    A nice overview here of various phases of Owls. Although it certainly qualifies as "shoddy workmanship at the mint", I like this coin for its careless strike and thick, mis-shapen flan:

    Habbaris of Sindh, Umar ibn Abd al-Aziz (855-884 AD).
    Habbaris were the generals of Abbasid caliphate who came to invade India, but stopped by the Pratihara kingdom, so they settled west of river Indus and started ruling that area independent of the Abbasids. Sindh.png
