where the heck can I get the cheapest, most sulfur filled albums at?

I want to make some rainbow toned coins and I wanna start ASAP! :D

btw can someone post on cointalk a progression of how a blast white coin turns into a rainbow toned coin? I think alot of people would like to see such a scale as I have seen alot of questions pointing to it without actually getting an answer.

wow, um, not a lot of us are into the whole AT thing. And those of us that might possibly be don't share that information casually as it could be used to the detriment of the hobby. That being said if you can locate some old raymond albums, have a nice dark drawer in a warm dry area, you could tone some coins "naturally" in a couple of years.

You probably won't ever see such pics. It would require that somebody took a series of pics over a period of time as the toning progressed.

for the most sulphur in any albums, look for the Wayte Raymond albums.

And expect to wait a LONG time.

This isn't going to happen in a month or two, but, rather, years.

Also, this is not AT to those who protest.

Something to keep in mind. They may tone in an ugly way. You never know.

It doesn't require a science background to realize you could make your own with a little google help. But that would be considered AT by most due to intention.

I find this thread distressing on several levels. :(

If you want to know more about toning, read "Coin Chemistry" by Weimar White. It's the best information on the subject I've ever seen.

ok I guess I'm new to the whole toning subject

why is it great to have toned coins unless unless you find out one or more is intentional?

say you have 2 coins 1 was made by an accident in the past 30 years...and the other was made by intentionally putting it in an album and thus it toned... both the coins look exactly the same in the toning colors and would be considered NT but without the information that the second one is meant to be toned your happy with it but knowing that it was put into an album with the intent to tone turns that coins into just pocket change.

my question is why? wouldn't a toned coin be cool just to haave no matter the way it toned? I'm not talking about the people that use chemicals and or heat to tone frankies into purple melt value trash

but does it matter how or where a coin came from if it's NT since a coin toned in an album is suppoed to be considered NT ( at least from what I have heard) maybe I'm wrong

btw how does anyone ever discover the origin of a toned coin from being intentionally placed into an album to tone or a coin placed into a sulfur album without the intent to tone it?

Some innocently say, "I put it into the album intending to get it "album toned". I wrapped it in clean 'newsprint' paper to speed it up." After 4 months still not toned enough (paraphrased). [post on another forum]

Some one sees a photo of pre-toned "recognizable" coin ( maybe from Teletrade) that 2 months later is for sale as a "neon rainbow" on someone else's website. [NGC forum].

Toning is a natural chemical process, it isn't a "Da Vinci" secret.

Uh oh, you just disclosed your motive. Those coins are AT now before they even get into the album. ;)

    Here we go again.

My suggestion to the OP. Do a bit of forum searching, this is a bit of a hot topic, and one, frankly, I don't really care to argue with the same people about again so quickly.

    Respectfully...Mike

Its posts like this is why I am in denyial (sic) of the notion that toned coins are worth a self imposed premium.

It's funny you should post that. I have a Barber quarter (had been harshly dipped) I put in a Wayte Raymond album that toned almost identical to that one.
