I have a 2000P Jefferson Nickel that has what appears to be 2 raised columns of smoke coming from the 2 chimneys to the right of the dome on Monticello. Has anyone else seen this? I have a picture but I don't know how to attach it. Any help would be appreciated.

In the pic at least it appears as if the metal in the area you are talking about is raised - is it ? If it is - then my best guess would be that it is due to die polishing or perhaps die chips. Gotta dmit - first time I've seen this one.

Yes, the metal is raised. I thought they were die chips but like you, I've never seen anything like this coin..almost like the coin was designed that way.

I don't have a nickel in hand at the moment (go figure) to check, but it may be a die-clash. Can you post a picture of the obverse of your coin? Thanks :)

    Hi,
No doubt in my mind that it is from a die clash. I've seen it hundreds of times. Those lines will line up with Jefferson's coat and hair.
    Have Fun,

It is certainly a die clash.
