Hate to suggest it, but since the wheat stalk cent got nuked because of it's alleged similarity to some Weimar German coin all of these:

Appear to be infringing on other boring and uninspiring designs from the past.

I have this feeling the worst of these designs will be the one selected, ie the flag design since it is the plainest.

I like 13 and 17 with probably 17 the most. I'm afraid though they will pick the one with the flag. I like flags, but not this one.

The post about waste or uneeded coin is true; however, if we are going to be wasteful let's do it tastefully.

I really like 13 the best. I don't like the flag at all...it is flat and uninteresting. If they were going to pick a flag, I feel that LP09 was a much better design (although I still don't care for it).

I actually like the detail in one and five. Since they are out of the running then I would go with 17. No matter which one Guethner picks he's going to be called all sorts of bad names. I'm sure he just loves this type of attention

Nowhere in that article does it say that those four designs are the finalists. What it says is that the 18 designs fall into four groups Capital Buildings (Like #2), Flags (like #10), Shields (like #13), and Eagles (like #17). Plus a fifthgroup represented by the wheat sheath design which has been eliminated.

#10 and #17 were probably selected for that article because they have been approved by the committees. The other two are probably just the ones the writer likes best for those two categories.

It would be complete overkill IMO.

I also think 17 would be my choice but I'am thinking a lot of folks like the shield 13 & wouldn't be suprised to see it on the new 2010 cent :)

I think you have picked the winning design, I just hope it not another memorial building which would be to close to the current design :)

I wouldn't. We have had enough of that. Lets get back to unchanging designs for a while.

I'll bet he has a lot of help in choosing & like most politicians he'll go with the majority , lets hope he doesn't close his eyes :vanish: & just point to one :eek:dd: :stooge:

I agree, it has become crazy with the state quarters, now the parks series. And then we have the 4 pennies this year. We also have the multitude of presidential dollars, we've had the different nickels. The dime is next. IMO they are trying to please to many people and in doing so, creating a mass of random coinage where the order is going away. Get a design and stick with it for a while. Mint is wasting money with creating all these dies. (Even though they probably make it up with their prices of the mint products)...my rant for the day:whistle:

Frankly I didn't have any issues with the design of the Lincoln memorial cent, it was fine as it was except for going low relief spaghetti hair in the 1980's.

With the except of Lincoln, Jefferson, and Washington, I don't think Roosevelt and Kennedy belong on coins. History looks back favourably on the former, but with what we know now about philandering Franklin and Kennedy I do not believe they are worthwhile to be given such accolades as being on coinage as heroes.

I think the mint should bring back the wheat cent for one year, just like they did for the 1921 morgan dollar...

I agree, but there is nothing wrong with changing it now either. They had the Lincoln Cent beginning in 1909 (100th anniversary of Lincoln's birth) with the original wheat reverse. In 1959 (150th anniversary) they changed the reverse to depict the Lincoln Memorial. Now, at the 200th anniversary they want to change it again and that's fine with me. But, lets make the change to a new reverse to commemorate the 200th anniversary and stick with it for a while. Le's not continue to create annual design change series...on this or any other US circulation coin.

I for one rather could care less for all these quarter design changes. Most of the designs stunk. There were some like Nevada's and Mississippi's that were fairly attractive, but then all those ridiculous state outlines. Some made no real sense, like Maryland's - Old Line State? What? I lived in Maryland and I never heard that. Something more appropriate would have been something about the religious tolerance there, or the battle of Ft. McHenry.

I'd have to disagree with you about Franklin, Roosevelt & Kennedy , if all Presidents & Politicians were judged on their personal lives instead of their professional achievements we would be looking long & hard to find anyone to adorn our coins
