Has anyone received a recent order of the 2005 US Mint Uncirculated Sets? Mine have been on backorder since 6/7/05. This morning, one of the television coin shows seemed to imply the mint was again going to stop striking coins for mint sets early again this year. Has anyone heard this other than on television. Maybe the coin shows are just trying to increase sales?

    Thanks, Jim

I am still waiting for my set (which I returned as damaged when I first received it) and the mint is promising a ship date of 090505. Understand that thlis is the fourth ship date that they have given me on this set. I think the coin show is trying to 'hype' their product and they figure that if you are desperate, you will pay their price.

I'm still waiting for my set also. They have put me off several times, now they say Sept 10. We'll see

    2005 Unc Sets

Thanks everyone, I was hoping I was not the lone person who's order might have fallen into that black hole at the mint. They have lost an order on me in the past, as well as cancelled my order for the 2004 Coin and Metal Set. My ship date on the 2005 Unc sets as of today is 9/15, but this date changes every night. Ordered my set on June 24th. Got it this week after the delivery date was pushed back several times.

The Mint halted mint and proof set sales very early last year and a ton of people were upset as many of them wait to order Xmas sets. The Mints intentions are to get ready for the next year (2006) so they will most likely halt sales early again this year in an effort to keep on their new production schedule which they started this year. I wouldn't wait to long to order as the new nickels caused a lot of sales this year.

    2005 Unc Sets

Now the US Mint Website reads that the 2005 Satin Finish Unc Mint Sets will be available to ship 11/18/05. November 18th!!!! These sets were first offered by the mint on 6/2/05. This is over 6 months. I am beginning to wonder if the mint had a problem with striking, and getting the finish just right. Anyone heard anything along this line? Maybe they are having trouble duplicating the satin-finish. I wish they'd tell us something.

    Thanks, Jim

    Ordered 09/01/05

I ordered three more sets yesterday and they posted a shipping date of 09/05/05. We'll have to see how well they stick to that. I'll keep you posted.

I'm not buying any this year....to me they are not Mint Sets...they are a Satin Finish set.
I was doing a set of US Mint Sets but it looks like it will be from 1947-2004!

Speedy - That seems like an odd differentiation. Why would you make that demarcation? It's still a mint set. Did you not buy the 1996 mint set because it had a dime in it with a "w" on it? Same logic really.

But the 1996 set had a set of Mint Coins just like they put in circulation...plus the dime...

As for these sets...they don't have any examples of Circulating coins...that to me is what a MINT SET is...its a set of Mint State Coins just like are found in change--and are meant for change...

I guess you could pretty much put together a set of uncirculated looking coins from this year and keep that as your 2005 mint set. I've seen special little plastic containers that hold one of each type of coin.

Hey you could be a trend-setter, a maverick, a trail blazer...We could call them "Speedy Mint Sets." All rights reserved, patent pending, not available in states where Speedy doesn't live, yada, yada, yada. :)

I really think they are having problems with quality control. I have not seen a set grade higher than MS66 by either NCG or PCG. And I know that when they did the satin finish on the nickle a while back, they had a lot of returns.
