will consist of 14 coins next year, (4) $1 Presidential Coins, (5) Nat'l. Parks Quarters, (1) Lincoln Cent, (1) Jefferson Nickel, (1) Rosevelt Dime, (1) Kennedy Half Dollar & (1) Native American Dollar. I'am thinking of registering with the U. S. Mint for the Subscription Program & the 2010 Silver Proof Set will be the first set received. I've never signed up for this program & I'am wondering what the pro & cons are when subscribing to this program , open to suggestions :D

I subscribe for 3 sets from the mint each year. Proof, Silver Proof and Uncirculated. I don't buy them from ebay, I suspect that some people buy tons of sets then pull out and cherrypick the best ones to get slabbed and offer up the left overs as the full sets. By getting these direct from the mint I know that I'm safe from that. As a matter of fact, buying from the mint in my opinion is the safest course of action for any moderns and I really don't mind paying a premium for them.

i too have set up subscriptions on many mint products. i know i have a few for the new unc mint sets that will be coming out. i also did it for the silver proof sets and ended up getting those fairly quick. i also set one up for the proof and unc ASE's if they ever make them:rolling:

The biggest pro for using a subscription to the mint is that you do not have to worry about the coins being cherry picked over. The biggest drawback the US Mint charges the same for shipping regardess of what you are ordering, so you may want and wait and purchase directly from the mint when they are available. This way you can save on shipping if ordering only 1 set.

I've got mostly from the mint with no problems but the few I received from ebay were messed with, lose coins being the most common :vanish::hammer:

I've got to agree with you, since I only collect silver sets & silver coins the mint seems the safest way to purchase . I do think I'll try & subscribe this year & see what happens. I know with ebay I did receive some questionable coins a couple of times , I only ever ordered 4 sets off ebay & would not do it again:)

I like the mint subscription program Pappy. No more hovering around the computer on product release day, and the fact that I subscribe to more than one of the subscription products justifies the shipping cost (in my mind at least). :smile

The thing with ebay is there are some good sellers and those few who mess it up and cherry pick , with all of this fake stuff going on the Mint is going to be my pick, no worries:eek:dd::kewl:

Thanks greeny, but your right about ordering on the computer of even worse making a lot of phone calls when a new coin is released, that can be a real bummer :)

I must be either one of the lucky ones or else I am just nieve! I have purchased over 80 mint sets and or proof sets off of Ebay, and they have all been in the original government packaging. On the proof sets I have looked for signs that they have been pryed open and have never found any on the proof sets. With the way the mint sets are sent in the sealed plastic packages, how could these be tampered with?

biggie I don't know how they do it but I've purchased a few sets from ebay & a couple of the state quarters were lose and turning around in the sealed plastic holder & the U. S. Mint sets were all nice and firm in the plastic package , the only exception from the mint was this year when one of the silver proof sets I received had a Dist. of Columbia quarter a little askew ( turned a little ) but solid and firm in the holder :eek:hya: who knows how they do it, I sure don't:smile

I subscribed for one uncirculated set. Ifeel assured that I will always receive it without fail.

I'm afraid the 2009 mint set will sell at a premium on eBay after they stop selling from the Mint (imho) due to the LP1-4 pennies and the hype over 2009 nickels and dimes.

I haven't bought any in quite a few years, but to the best of my knowledge the plastic cases are not sealed, they just snap together. You can open them up, replace the coins, and snap 'em back closed again.

Absolutely, and this can be done with no evidence of tampering....

Thats exactly why I'am considering subscribing for the annual silver proof sets , they are what my collection is based on, but of course I still like the older coins & when I've got the opportunity to pick some up I will buy them, what got me started was when my grandmother passed on she left me her good luck 1900-O morgan, I was 14 yrs. old :)
