A Dime for Your Thoughts?

My thoughts are that the surfaces of the coin merit MS65, but the coin is in an MS64 holder due to subdued luster. I can't tell this from the photos of course, but coins that are so deeply toned often have subdued luster.

Many thanks to all for such fine compliments on my coin. When I saw it on-line, I just had to have it since it fits with my mission and the toning is beautiful to me. When I got it in hand, I was very satisfied that the pictures were accurate as far as the overall look of the coin.

As for your good guesses on the grade, I also thank you for your attempts to grade from pictures. This is mainly guesswork, but I appreciate it for the exercise to see what people focus upon. I know that I can see things that you can't see after looking at it in hand.

First off, there is a scratch running across the face up under the nose. One has to look very carefully to see it on such a small coin with a lot of toning. Additionally, there is a little chatter on the cheek. Otherwise, the obverse fields are pristine. On the reverse (it has a slight die rotation not shown), there is the evident hit under the "I" in DIME. Also, the dentils seem to missing on the upper to mid right side of the reverse and AJ saw the small rim ding there. These imperfections are fine with me and give the coin a little interest in my book.

The other comments about the leaves.....the detail is all there, but the pics don't capture it too well.

After all of my blather above, PCGS gave it a grade of 62. CAC also gave it a green sticker. Seeing it in hand, I feel it is slightly undergraded, but I am not a professional grader (understatement!).

Again, thanks for all the comments.

No, just collect both Conders and U.S. type, not series. Thanks for asking.

Just a bump one time for those who did not see what PCGS gave as to the grade.

Looks like a strong 63 from the pics. I like the coin very much. A bit on the dark side, which I think some collectors don't like, but not me -- I like it a lot.
