Being sold as BU with a seven day return policy.

Now, I forbid any negative comments or uncertainty. Either you have a snap judgement or not; plain and simple. No shades of grey pls.

Either you say it's real, cleaned or uncleaned, certifiable, and grade or you don't say anything at all.

Thanks and sorry for the harsh tone ;)

It looks cleaned to me. Look at the letter on the reverse. Nice coin.

I thought it did too, Cheryl until I posted the actual auction earlier and my thoughts of it being cleaned were shot down by a few members so that one is a "toss up" ;)

I still think it has been cleaned but I would not ruled out polished.
Good luck on the coin. I am still looking for one. Cheryl

When you have a coin that rare, there is a reason why it is not certified, generally it means (But not always) its a problem coin.

And it looks genuine...the roof cap is not straight, you see the stream of pee as well as the moth eaten leg. It didn't look cleaned to me at first, but it very well may be.

Especially when the same seller is selling several certified coins. If it really was an MS63, the seller has every incentive to get it slabbed as it would be an easy $4000 coin and maybe if it squeezed into MS64 it would be double that figure. My guess is one of the following:

    A. The coin has a problem and the seller didn't even bother trying to get it certified since he knew his photos would mask the problem;

    B. The seller did try to get it certified as an AU and/or it came back in a Genuine holder and the seller decided they could make more money by cracking it out and selling it raw; or

    C. The seller isn't rational and is selling a $4000+ BU coin for half that price.

Hope it's a nice one when you get it in hand and wish you the best of luck with it. I definitely think it's genuine by what I can see in the photos, but it was a very very risky purchase in my opinion. Good luck and keep us posted!!!

    Want my honest opinion?

Before I share, I know I'll get at least 3 of you from the bat tell me how wrong I am yea yea yea..

    Okay.. here's my opinion..

I wouldn't have boughten this if I couldn't get it for $1800. I believe the coin is genuine. Onto cleaning, why a person would clean such a detailed coin like this would be beyond me.

Now, why wouldn't a guy certify this coin.

Maybe that's how he bought it and how he intends to sell it. Not everyone thinks like you do and certify. This guy does MASSIVE inventory so maybe he just doesn't have the time. He's gone through tons of 1937 d 3 leggers and maybe this one was given to him. He originally listed this at $2400. I know him and begged the hell out of him to get it this low.

Also, there is possibly more money to be made selling a raw coin over a certified just on pure mystery+intrigue alone.

I think this coin is gorgeous. I compared it to tons of AU58's and by no means is this an AU58 at least by my standards. It's so detailed. I would venture to say it's MS. MS what who knows.

    Regarding grading..

I will be bringing this coin with me to the show in Van Nuys next Sunday to get every dealer's opinion. We'll see what they all have to say on it. Illini420 suggested I do that.

This is a risky play and is against my conservative rules, but, I know the seller. I bought my last 1937-d 3 legger from him and that turned out to be an honest good coin. I just don't want it anymore, it's time for an upgrade.

    So, let's see.

Here comes at least 3 negative responses to this post of mine, either "I'm too ambitious" , "I don't know what I'm talking about", "I have no grading experience to make a judgement" etc. Can't wait.. I'm not as stupid as some of you may think! lol

Now, I could be dead wrong and this is a Chinese fake, cleaned, ungradeable, and I just got beat big time..

    But, I doubt it.

    I really needed a beautiful 1937 d 3 legger.

And I suggested that course of action because it is very difficult to impossible to accurately grade a coin based on a single photo. Because of the 7 day return policy and the show next weekend, you have the opportunity to have 20-30 dealers some of which will be experts give you their opinion on the coin after viewing the coin in hand. With all of those opinions, plus your own feelings on the coin, you can then make a well-informed decision on whether your $1800 purchase was a bad move or a home run.

Well, I know Im late but.... I think the coin is AU55 & it was either wiped at some point or the lighting is over exposed. Either way it still looks nice for a collection. Thanks for showing it.

I wont say any of that....however, just a suggestion.. It seems almost a month ago now, you wanted a mentor, yet now you are buying high end US coins that I can't even imagine in my dreams. YOu are buying these coins, without 100% assurance that they are real, more less graded properly and cleaned/not cleaned. It seems as if you should slow down and maybe learn a bit.

I am just making that suggestion from my experience. I learned the hard way. I wont even buy ancients now unless I am 100% certain they are genuine. I have really cut back on my coin buying in the past few months, just to actually sit back and learn...and it's working....very slowly (but, you will learn faster than me, I am just lazy :goof:).

Again, not trying to be offensive or anything, but maybe you should really try to get good with the coins you are buying, which seems to be the high end, key date/in demand type US stuff.

It's real interesting how I looked at every AU55/58 sold on Heritage from Sept 09 all the way to 07 and not one looks similar to this coin. They all seem flat in areas this coin isn't.

So, I don't know if I should or shouldn't take these opinions carefully or seriously.

Thanks, but see I believe that in life if we have the money we have to take chances.. INFORMED chances. Not blind ones. Let's see if my intuition serves me correct here. It's a gamble I am more than comfortable with taking. I think it's a gorgeous coin and I happen to have past history with the dealer. Plus, 7 day return policy. I show the coin to 20+ dealers next sunday, and boom boom boom. Let's just hope I get the coin by next week or that plan ends, lol.
