Howdy peeps, This lil boogher has bothered me for a while now: http://cgi.ebay.com/LARGE-CHOPPED-MARKED-SILVER-COIN-COUNTRY-UNKNOWN-ODD_W0QQitemZ230378276917 I have attempted many times to figure out what the host coin was but with no luck and I figured some of you might get a kick out of trying to figure it out. :thumb: Post what you think it is and maybe between us, we'll figure it out. hya: RIbbit
Looks like an old typewriters keys that went crazy and kept striking a blank silver slug , over & over : )
call me crazy, but I am seeing the denticles and mebbe the lettering of a morgan hiding in there..... i think the first pic in there is of the reverse of the coin....
Look closer! :kewl: I believe I see DEI. So I'm thinking a Pillar Dollar but knot sure. :goofer: Ribbit
No way I am disagreeing with you on that one.... lol was getting a headache from trying to find the unchopped 1% of that coin....
I wrote my original message "from memory" then went and looked at the coin again and noticed it was DEI I saw and not REX and I corrected my post, withing a couple of minutes, but you were on that like a toad to a puddle. However, there is that "X" that pops up somewhere else and a few other pieces of the legend that are visible. :kewl: It sure is one messed up coin! :goofer: Ribbit
I know exactly what it is!!! It is a 1974 proof set (minus the jefferson nickel) that was run over by an amtrak on the 3rd of may of the year in question!!!!!:bigeyes:
You guys are correct it was a Mexico Silver dollar , I believe Ferdinand VII. Here are a few comparison pics.I think I have the rotation correct. I dont know why the images wont go bigger they are set at 700x600 & appear that way in my saved files.
