Hi my name is Salvatore and several years ago after a huge storm I came upon a One sided coin with a ladies head on it from 1884. I really never thought much of it being real as it only is one sided. So today I was rummaging through some old junk box and found the coin , being more computer savy I figured reach out to the forum community. If anyone has any info on this coin it would be greatly appritiated . It is a rather large (most likely a dollar piece) from 1884 that looks kind of like a flowing hair morgan dollar. Thank you SB (sorry about the grammer
Welcome to CT. As said before, we really need pics. If it is a Morgan Dollar, and has no reverse side...it is either fake or the reverse has been altered. If it is genuine it is only worth melt value in that case. However, pictures are needed to know for sure.
What's the weight in grams and the width in millimeters? Does the reverse appear to have been machined? How does the thickness compare to a silver dollar? One possibility is that you have half of a magician's coin.
I'm a magician myself (I do sponge and coin magic) and I have never seen a magician coin like this. There are half blank and half regular coins, but they generally don't look that dark with that much of a patina. It's most likely a reproduction of some sort.
Ah thanks GoldCoinLover (and everyone else who has responded) , I did think it was a fake (or reproduction) as it looks as if the face has been stamped onto the coin. Its odd that I found this coin in the woods after a storm .. I guess the story may be the real value in this one >>
