http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=120465307922&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT I know it wasn't much so I want get hurt but the picture wasn't the best either. I just wanted some other opinions. Thanks Kent
Well i kinda felt the same way that is why I didn't spend much and also why more people didn't bid I guess. i don't know how to tell if a coin has been cleaned by looking at a photo so maybe I can use this one as a tool. thanks For the help. Kent
I'd say it's a decent price for the coin. I love two cent pieces and shield nickels. They are very unique coins that I have now begun to appreciate. I just recently bought a proof shield nickel. It was one of my more expensive purchases, but it'll be nice for the type set I'm building. With these two cent pieces and such, it's worth saving up for a mint state one. The common date (1864) large motto is probably the least expensive one. It's worth it though!
I'm not certain it's genuine. One of the indicators of a counterfeit is irregular denticles, and it looks like this one has 'em on the obverse. Always so hard to say from photos like this. Not all counterfeits have irregular denticles, and not all irregular denticles are counterfeit. But it's a strong indicator.
I agree that it's corroded...but it looks authentic to me. I think it's a fine price paid...not a steal but you did OK.
It might not even be so corroded but it might have been so contrasted with photoshopped that it looks that way.
I see what you are saying 900fine, and am not totally convinced it is genuine either. With that said, a counterfeit like this would make an unusual and interesting conversation piece, and still might be worth the 6 bucks.
It's a good price but.....it will always be a cleaned coin. It can serve to educate on cleaned bronze coins. Who knows in another 140 years you might not be able to tell.
When i actualy get the coin i am going to try and get my wife to take picture of it so I can show it to you with a better image if possible. I appreciate the honesty of your opinions I want to learn and I want a two cent piece so I figured this cheap one would serve both purposes. I realy hope I get it and it was just a bad picture well we know what the chances of that are. Thanks again and I will try to update you when i get the coin. Kent
Yes - it will be interesting to see what opinions might change with decent pictures. I have seen some steals from sellers with bad pictures, but I usually stay away from them.
