Can you please post a photo of the edge. Thank you. You can read an earlier thread that explains if your coin is improperly annealed or not. https://www.cointalk.com/threads/2017-d-new-jersey-ellis-island-improper-annealing.307775/
There is no way to accurate gauge the color of that coin based on the lighting in those photos, I'd say. In any event, it's not likely a ground find. Those usually discolor to a flat brown in most soils, if they've been in the dirt more than a few months. To me, it just looks like a well-worn coin, though the wear pattern is slightly unusual, as though it was briefly tumbled or polished. In a dryer, as @SensibleSal66 suggested, or briefly in the surf, even.
The coin in the pictures is not a 2019 P. Also the lighting is bad. Ideally you'd want a picture that looks as close to how the coin looks to the eye.
I was unaware that I posted it as I 2019-P until you said that, but yes this 1995-P to me is beautiful and these pictures are not doing it any justice. Seems to have a die issue between L I on the obverse and the D S on the reverse.
This is a 1995-P Quarter. I have plenty of excuses for titling this thread a 2019-P Quarter in error but I will spare you those.
from the picture of the edge and the new pictures of the color, with the reeding worn off smooth, this coin spent some time spinning around in a hot clothes dryer but not long enough to really warp out the coin. I do believe between the LI on the obverse and between the DS on the reverse there are die cracks from the pictures, I think that's plausible, but it's still a damaged coin that happened after minting though. the reeded edge shouldn't be worn smooth.
Thanks Fred. I didn't feel 100% certain on them being cracks from the pictures, but I was willing to give it the benefit of the doubt, I've no doubt the coin is damaged though
Typical wear from something like being sandblasted and then dirtied with maybe an oily substance. We'll never accurately know the precise way it was worn down, as there are virtually a number of ways it could have been done.
