Hello, I just had to let you guys know what happened today. If you dont know me personally, let me tell you something. Me and my wife are foster parents to 2 boys. They came to live with us about 3 weeks ago. when they got here they were very shy and quiet, because it is very hard on them. not knowing what to expect and all. it was the hardest thing even to get them to smile. Well I had to think of something to break the ice, so I started the older one collecting pennies with me. It started off slow but now he is doing great. well today I took him to a coin show here In scranton , Pennsylvania. What he is very into is Canadian pennies. he thinks they are the coolest thing. (that was his first smile when he found one in a roll). well today they had an auction for the kids. They gave them 36.00 in play money to bid on coins that others donated. Here is a picture of all the coins he came home with!!!!!! The smile on his face was priceless. goes to show you that coin collectors do something very special, even if they dont know they are doing it!!!! I want to thank all the collectors out there for doing such a good job. Thanks again---BILL--- you can zoom for a closer look--its worth it
Nice heartwarming post Bill. Being a former foster parent myself i can appreciate what you're doing. There's lots of sacrifices you have to make but also lots of rewards for doing it. Kudos to the coin show for doing something for the kids.
Very cool Bill. Being a foster parent is a very selfless endeavor. And way to go passing the bug of collecting to the young.
Wow, that's quite the haul!!! Cool, and thanks for sharing. One of the local shows near me does an auction for kids too and it seems to bring in a good crowd.
That's wonderful. My best to you and your wife for your loving and caring care for these children. Enjoy them and I hope they both become lifelong collectors.
Great Story... I will keep my eyes peeled for some in change here. I am also going to Canada in a few weeks..let me know what he wants and I will see if I can find some... I have a cent album a fancy one it is theirs for the asking. Let me know, I would be happy to send it to you. The album is a Dansco including the Proofs for Lincoln Cents....heck I even have an old proof set for each of them.. Send me your address!! RickieB
I'm glad to hear this great story. That is quite a few nice pickups! I am biased but I like the Canadian pennies aswell hehe.
Bill, now you will have some more coins to sort through because your name was pulled and was second winner in my contest. Congrats on such a wonderful job that you are doing raising two young men.
What are a few cent to many of us mean a whole lot to some of us. Great start on being their dad. Bruce
Best story I've heard in a long time. Yeah, I think that's a good example of the pay it forward payback!! Being good attracts good things to happen, it sounds like a God thing to me. :high5:
Sounds like your raising a real deal making coin collector. He came home with more than many adults for sure. At this rate he will end up being worth millions by the time he is in High School. Keep up the great work.
Wonderful story Bill , both you & your wife sound like special people and I admire what you are doing for those lucky young men. Raising children is one of the most rewarding gifts this life has to offer , best of luck & those coins are a great start to coin collecting : )
Thanks for the story. May I suggest that you offer to buy them rolls that they can search providing they replace any coins they take. Of course, you might salt the rolls with an occasional Canadian cent.
What a great story, a big thumbs up to you and your wife for makeing a difference in these kids lives. :thumb::thumb:
Bill that is great what you are doing for those kids. Canadian coins is what got me started in coin collecting too. I have a nephew who is autistic and I would love to get him involved in coins. Problem is I only see him 1-2 times a year. He is fixated on sports particularly the Iowa Hawkeyes which is fine but I would like to make him more well rounded and learn something.
